My name is Ryan, I'm 28 years old, and in 2005 I was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome. Marfan is a connective tissue disorder with no cure, that affects the heart, the aorta, and the skeletal system, and in my case the esophagus as well, in 2005 I had my esophagus tear, and again in 2008. I need a surgery but unfortunately don't have insurance.
I was employed as a food service manager for 6 years with a nationwide restaurant until June of 2012, when my mom who raised and supported me and honestly gave me the best life I could've ever wished for had a hip replacement surgery to correct an operation she had when she was an 5 years old, unfortunately it did not go as planned and she has nerve damage that does not allow her to walk without a cane. When the time for her surgery came due, I asked for my first days off in my entire working career other than the days I was hospitalized in '05 and '08, unfortunately my employer did not like the fact that I was asking for days off and gave me an ultimatum, I could work and keep my job, or take time off to tend to my mother and come back at server pay of $4.26/hr, the choice was obvious.
After six weeks of taking care of her she was able to start to do things on her own, unfortunately due to the pain she had not worked full time since 2007 and had exhausted all her savings trying to keep her mortgage current, and with medical bills, so I pooled all my money and bought a hot dog cart to help her with her bills, unfortunately the stress and strain of lifting and moving the cart took a toll on my health, and low and behold I too needed medical treatment, I have prescriptions for medications I can not afford, and medical bills and credit card bills now piling up due to trying to save everything. I can't get health insurance I can afford due to pre existing conditions and will eventually need a surgery that will run in the 20-30 thousand dollar range conservatively. I'm still out there everyday doing all I can, but it's getting harder, I have more frequent heart palpatations which are leading to light headedness and migraines, and there's nowhere to turn now that my credit is destroyed due to trying to keep the house for her.
I'm looking for help to hire somebody to help me during my days, pay off my medical bills, get health insurance, and get the mortgage current, or at least close to it before the jan. 22 foreclosure hearing, or at least have money to pack up and move.
Any money that is raised over the limit will go to catch everything up completely as well as be donated to various institutions close to my heart which include the V Foundation for cancer research, which 100% of all money donated goes straight to cancer research, the national marfan foundation which is working to better treat the condition, untreated the average life expectancy of a person with marfan is about 40 years old, with treatment you can live a full life with the medications and check ups. and the shriners hospital for children.
