The UnXpected, is in the process of recruiting sponsors to help fund recording sessions for their first EP as well as their trip to The IBC in Memphis. The band is reaching out to people they know, friends of the band and local merchants/businesses for support. Hopefully, you will see value in helping these young musicians fulfill their dreams.
The UnXpected, a peninsula-based band, is made up of five very talented young musicians who met at The Academy of Rock Music in Yorktown. Since they began playing together about 6 months ago, they have made quite a splash on the local music scene. Band members include: 15 year-old Cole Layman (guitar, vocals); 12 year-olds Logan Layman (bass, vocals), Zachary Salsberry (guitar, vocals) and Kevin Marks (drums); and 11 year-old Tyler Bevington (keyboard) .
Among their early performances was a blues competition in July, where they placed second to a very seasoned and well-established band in Carbon Jam. In early September, The UnXpected took home the top prize in the Junior Battle of the Bands competition in Va. Beach facing off against five very talented youth bands. They also played at the 30th Annual Hampton Bay Days, Stockley Gardens Art Festival and various other events throughout Hampton Roads and beyond.
Most recently, The UnXpected performed at the Toys for Tots Benefit sponsored by Harley-Davidson (one of The UnXpected’s sponsors). Throughout November and December, several events are lined up in Williamsburg and throughout Hampton Roads highlighted by FM99's Christmas Wish Benefit on December 2 and the Hampton Holly Days Parade on December 8 where they will be playing and sharing a float with Bria Kelly of America's Got Talent. In January, they will head to Richmond for a performance at the infamous Canal Club and will play alongside some of the best down-home blues bands Richmond has to offer. And in late January, they will travel to Memphis, TN and represent the DC Blues Society in the Youth Showcase of the International Blues Challenge (IBC).
