Praise for Haline
Haline is a mesmerizing story of a fallen world in which the characters struggle to cope with life after an environmental cataclysm. Not only is Sundeep's story told with a brisk pace and enveloping detail, it's also a call to act - to shape the future, before it shapes us. – Kabir Sehgal, Author
Incredibly engaging and a total page turner. I found myself still reading at 1am, and didn't stop. I haven't been that engaged by a book since Harry Potter or Twilight! – Lauren Weinstein (pictured)
I finished Haline in less than 24 hours - it was one of the most original and enjoyable books I've read this year. And when I say that, keep in mind that I'm only an occasional sci-fi fan, so I was initially skeptical about whether I'd enjoy it. If you like the sci-fi genre even a little bit, get this book. – Tyler Willis, Entrepreneur
For fans of "The Wind-Up Girl" and "The Handmaid's Tale" a cautionary story of a not too distant dystopian future, it serves as a hard slap across the face to wake from our collective apathy. – @thesubjective
Haline is a fantastic cautionary tale which embodies a simple but powerful idea: the sum of our individual choices can greatly affect our collective reality. I dare you to read it and not feel the urge to make a change. – Satyender Mahajan, Entrepreneur
HiMy name is Sundeep Ahuja. I’m an entrepreneur (and former actor) who 19 months ago started the long journey of writing a novel. I’m incredibly excited to pre-launch the book on indiegogo...thanks for stopping by!
Haline is a dystopian novel about a “post climate-change” future. The plot is suspenseful and fast paced (it takes place over just 4 days), and early readers tell me they weren’t able to put the book down. It’s just over 50k words, or about 210 pages at a 5x8 trim.
Like any great book (a-hem :), Haline is really about its main characters and their personal journeys: Natasha, who has something to prove; Aaren, who has something to hide; and Joaquin, who discovers something about himself that changes the course of his life – and all their lives.
The story revolves around an upcoming election in the city-state of Haline, where the charismatic President Gaven Jemmer is seeking an unprecedented third term in a resource-starved world licking its wounds after decades of war and famine following the shutdown of earth's thermohaline flow.
Why I wrote Haline
I care about our planet. And its people. But I’ve been worried that we people haven’t been taking good enough care of our planet (or each other, for that matter). Two years ago I started writing a non-fiction “update” to An Inconvenient Truth in hopes of raising awareness around climate change and corporate greed (news flash: they are related). Then one day it hit me: I should write a fiction novel about climate change and corporate greed...it’d be much more fun to read!
I'm pre-selling 500 special edition, numbered & autographed copies to fund:
~$1000 to hire a professional editor.
~$500 to launch a basic website.
- ~$250 to hire a cover artist. After all, most people judge books by their covers (the image above is my amateur attempt...don't judge! :).
~$250 to format the book for publication.
...and of course, money to fulfill the perks and market the book.
The novel is among the first of its kind in raising awareness around a possible “post climate-change future.” Pre-order the book to enjoy a good read and do a good deed :).
What does "free download (select days)" mean?
I intend to publish via Amazon's Kindle Select program, which allows me to give the ebook away via Amazon (no Kindle required) for "free" for a couple days. I'll email you several days in advance of the free days, and then again on the days themselves.
When can I expect to receive my perks?
My intention is to order paperbacks of the final draft by 11/30, and then ship USPS out of San Francisco by 12/13.
How do I win a free perk by sharing on Facebook or Twitter?
I'll be watching Facebook & Twitter for people sharing this campaign with #haline; when it ends, I'll give away 10 'paperback,' 1 'stocking stuffer' and 1 'blissmo' perk.
What is the book "rated"?
Much like Hunger Games, the book is somewhere between PG and PG13 – making it the perfect holiday gift for almost everyone.
