A Half-Life Web Series - finally!!!
What is 'The Freeman Chronicles'?
'The Freman Chronicles' is a 6-episode Half-Life series, funded and created entirely by THE FANS. Chariotdrive and Infectious Designer - creators of numerous fan films based in the Half-Life universe - join forces in producing this ambitious project.
What We Need & What You Get
Action movies in hollywood cost millions of dollars. We'll give you a 40 minute sci-fi/action movie for 75k! We're talking soldiers, helicopters, massive explosions, Vortigaunts, Tau Cannons, gun fights, Barnacles, hand to hand combat...and it won't stop there. That's why we need the financial support - that's why we need you. To take fan films and web series to a new and exciting level, we need fans around the world to band together!
How do we make it so cheap?
We know $75,000 is a lot of money: relatively speaking. But when entering a level of epic storytelling based on the incredibly vivid and complex world of Half-Life, it is really just the bare minimum. But we can do it. And more importantly WE WANT TO DO IT and we're not intending to profit!
That means the cast and crew will spend hundreds and hundres of unpaid hours working on this baby, and the budget will go exclusively to what's necessary to create a compelling Half-Life world.
Making Enter the Freeman and Beyond Black Mesa with our own money was somewhat doable, but for this series we need more locations, more sets, more costumes and props, equipment, a bigger crew... you get the idea.
'Why', you ask?
Because we are like you: huge fans of Half-Life.
This amazing game is more than ripe for a badass real-life movie, and the time is now, friends!
We want to give back whatever we can. Not only will you get your perks but you can get the HEV suit and the Headcrab below.
A lost episode from the game...
We have a core story around Gordon Freeman, our protagonist, and the Commander of the HECU unit as the main antagonist, filled with terrifying Barnacles, vicious Vortigaunts and ruthless HECU soldiers. It fits right in between Gordon reaching the surface and heading to the Lambda complex...you get to explore a sort of lost episode from the game. It can't get much better than that, no?!
Become Part of the Team
In addition to being financers of the series, YOU, the fans, will get to help us chose between possible story scenarios! You'll get to vote on how the story moves forward in certain parts and give 'TFC' the ultimate fan support.
Some of the rewards also grant you a small role in the series! There's so many ways to be part of the team that sets the standard for what a live action Half-Life film should look like...
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can't find the spare cash to contribute, we totally understand, that doesn’t mean you can’t help:
- Get the word out and make noise about our Freeman web series.
- Use the Indiegogo share tools, follow us on Facebook and YouTube!
- If you're local to LA perhaps you can donate your time or equipment and get involved with the produciton.
What if we don't reach our goal?
If we don't raise the full amount, the truth is we won't be able to give you the spectacular and unprecedented web series we want to. But depending on how much we raise we will probably do one of two things:
- We will scale down the production and tweak the story so that we can do it at a reduced cost.
We will make less episodes and tell a part of the story.
If we raise morethan $75k (YOU CAN make it happen!) we will simply add more awesome Half-Life stuff to the series. Think Tau cannon, HECU choppers, Anti-Mass Spectrometer and a horde of creatures from Zen.
Finally (and about the give aways)
We have put a great deal of money, time and love into this already, have what we feel is a fantastic 6-part script, plus an amazingly talented team.
Regarding Copyright and Intelectual Property
This is a 100% fan-made web series. We are making no revenue from the project. Any donations we receive on Indiegogo will directly fund the series. They will never go in anyone's pocket. Marc Laidlaw, writer of Half-Life, when specifically asked about our first film 'Enter the Freeman', replied, ;We’re humbled that we inspire so many people to undertake these epic projects. We have gotten years of enjoyment out of these creations.' Gabe Newell said: ;If Lucasfilm had taken all the assets they had created for Star Wars: Episodes 1, 2 and 3 and released them to the fan community and said ‘you guys go and make three 90-minute movies', in aggregate the community would have built better movies than George Lucas did. I'm not being hyperbolic at all. I mean literally they would have made better, higher quality entertainment than he did. The key is to connect the dots for the community in terms of giving them the tools that they need.;
