GREENevada – Growing Resources for Environmental Education in Nevada – is a coalition of seven non-profits in Reno that includes the Alliance for Climate Education, Black Rock Solar, Envirolution, GreenPower, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, Sierra Nevada Journeys and Urban Roots Garden Classrooms.
In 2011, we held our first Student Sustainability Summit, bringing together high school students from Washoe County, Nevada to share their ideas for improving their schools' environmental standing.
Thanks to a grant from Pepsi Refresh, we awarded $28,000 to nine high schools. The winner, Reed High, won $12,000 to improve water efficiency in the school bathrooms.
This year, students from all over Northern Nevada are invited to share their ideas at the 2012 Student Sustainability Summit, on April 20 at the University of Nevada, Reno. School teams have been working on their projects for months, and are ready to present them in front of a judging panel of distinguished educators and community leaders.
All we need is the prize money to recognize and support these hardworking students.

Many of our local schools have the desire to make changes, but not the funds. For some schools, change can be as simple as removing styrofoam from the cafeteria. For others, it might mean starting a school garden or even installing solar panels. All of these things cost money.
Participating school teams must present:
- Research of their school's current situation
- A project plan with a budget
Their presentations are judged by a panel of experts, who ask pointed questions about the viability of these projects. The goal is to fund a project that will not only be completed under budget, but will truly benefit the school.
Your donations don't just recognize the students' hard work. You can help fund improvements that will help schools, teachers and students for years to come.
What We Need & What You Get
The more you give, the more we can give directly to the students. We've set the bar at $4,000, but we're hoping for more. As a coalition of nonprofits, we don't take a cut of the money. Minus a few expenses, it goes directly to the schools.
Every school will receive prize money. The more you give, the farther it goes.
We've also secured donations from a number of local businesses, in exchange for being featured sponsors. We'd like to offer you a few perks in thanks for your donation, too. Check out our list of perks below!
