ALL DONATIONS TO THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS PAGAN PRIDE DAY ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE, AS ALLOWED BY THE IRS. THE BIGGER THE DONATION, THE BIGGER THE TAX BREAK, SO BE GENEROUS!!!
The 2013 GNO Pagan Pride Day will be held on September 21st, 2013 from 10 AM to 6:30 PM at the New Orleans Healing Center (2372 St. Claude Ave). In the heart of the Marigny midway between the French Quarter and the 9th Ward. The Healing Center was created 2 years ago to be a community building that fosters mental, physical, emotional, environmental, and spiritual health through alternative means.
What is the Greater New Orleans Pagan Pride Day?
It's a day of tolerance and education, a chance to create a bridge between Pagans and non-Pagans, and an opportunity to bring the community together in rapture and joy. At the heart of Pagan Pride is the need to celebrate our religious freedom and promote Pagan identity, culture, and spirituality. We do this by invoking the elements that bind us all together:
Air - Education
Fire - Activism
Water - Charity
Earth - Community
Why Do This?
It is our hope that, by including the greater community (especially non-Pagans) in the activities that move us, the music that speaks to us, and the education that makes us examine our world and our relationship to it, we will open a meaningful dialogue that will create understanding. Fear of the unknown is something we are all familiar with, and it's that fear that leads to war mongering and hateful prejudice. By creating events that topple misunderstanding and misinformation, we pave the way for Pagan rights in the U.S. and other countries.
We often overlook the fact that we have religious freedom here. In countries like Papua New Guinea, Ghana, Pakistan, China, Uganda, and South Africa, people accused of witchcraft/sorcery/spiritual expression are often ostracized, or worse... burned alive or stoned. Until the day that all of us are free, none of us are really free. So we also gather to join forces, knowing that the work isn't done yet.
Who Will Be There?
Our roster of authors, lecturers, and performers includes spiritual workers that have travelled near and far, spreading their love of The Divine Feminine, Paganism, and their search for life's deeper meaning. We will feature:
What We Need
The Pagan community has always been able to provide for those in need, and now this worthy project needs your support. In future years, we hope that GNO Pagan Pride Day will be largely self-funding. For the moment, in order to supplement what our private sponsors within the community are able to provide, we are in need of seed money to get this festival off the ground: to pay for plane tickets for musicians and speakers, print promotional materials, and make a down payment for our venue.
All of our speakers/musicians have agreed to perform at significantly reduced fees, and if we do not reach our goal, we expect to be able to make up the difference through corporate sponsorship and vendors fees. Exceeding our goal will enable us to have a Pagan Pride Day 2014. This festival WILL happen, but with your help, we can make it soar.
