Experiences vs. Products
Thank you for finding us on indiegogo and helping us realize our dream! We are building ‘Silo City Rocks’ in a nearly 100 year old grain elevator on the Buffalo River in Buffalo, New York. The recent reinvigoration of Downtown Buffalo’s waterfront inspired this ambitious re-use project by three entrepreneurial, outdoor-enthusiast, community advocates; Kevin Cullen, Andy Minier & Jason Schwinger.
We believe in this project whole-heartedly because we’re providing what the community has asked for. As the City’s waterfront has been developed over the past few years, the conventional wisdom has undergone a tidal-shift from wanting a fancy-new-place to “buy” stuff, to wanting open & public space to “do” stuff.
Through your generosity, we will be able to fast-forward to the remaining phases of building what will become the most unique climbing-gym & outdoor education/recreation center in the country. With multiple outdoor and indoor climbing routes, bouldering caves, rappelling platforms, sport-routes, as well as a family & community room, education lounge, and yoga studio – Silo City Rocks is going to quickly grow into a destination spot for families, corporate team-building retreats, civic organizations, children’s groups and swarms of avid & new rock-climbers alike!
We’re asking for a pretty large amount of money. We’re doing this for two huge reasons: 1) like you, we want this project up and running, and 100% complete, as fast as possible. 2) We want our community, other like-minded individuals, to be able to reap the rewards and share in our successes.
Our goal for this campaign is to raise the capital needed to fully transform a few remaining dank circular grain-elevator bins into well-lit, warm, soft-rubber-floored community space.
The breakdown of campaign funds we’re attempting to raise will be spent as following:
- 30% will be spent on safe, soft-rubber flooring for kids & adult climbing rooms
- 25% of funds asked will go toward completing heating & lighting for the community rooms and yoga studio
- As this space is predominantly a rock-climbing gym, the remaining 45% is needed for hand-holds, safety anchors, and approximately a ‘mile’ of rope!
Our Gifts to You!
If you chose to help us raise money, we will show our overwhelming thanks with gifts of gratitude! From fun little things to significant gear and parties, we are offering up the following perks to our generous benefactors!
- Tee-Shirts and Stickers with our pretty sweet logo!
- Day Passes (and even Year Passes) to the climbing gym!
- Climbing gear like harnesses and shoes!
- Naming rights for climbing rooms and the yoga studio!
- V.I.P. launch party in May!
- Your Name on a World-Record Setting climbing route!
For literally all of our lifetimes, these grain elevators have stood sentinel at the edge of the Buffalo River, where Lake Erie meets the Erie Canal. This “Silo City” area is a rare combination of Buffalo’s natural, cultural, recreational, and landscape heritage – all merged together, just moments from the heart of Downtown Buffalo.
This development at Silo City is anchored in creating public access to outdoor recreational opportunities at this site and along the Buffalo River through a partnership with BFLO Harbor Kayak, which will provide kayak and stand-up paddle board rentals on site, as well as a local bike shop planning to offer urban exploration history tours.
Ultimately, our goal is to weave education and recreation together, while providing access to diverse experiences throughout all four-seasons along the waterfront.
