Gods Will Be Watching is a game about hard decissions and moral dilemmas in order to survive. A series of dramatic puzzles where not only the mathematic outcome counts but also the ethical approach to the problem. There's also no good or evil, just decisions, with only you as the judge of your actions. Is eating your friends the best way to stay alive, or just the easier?
Gods Will Be Watching is a pixel art point’n’click adventure being developed with Game Maker Studio and our plans include a version for PC, Mac, Linux, and also mobile versions for iOS and Android.
Gods Will Be Watching was created as an entry for the Ludum Dare 26 game jam, developed in less than 72 hours with "Minimalism" as theme, with just a single stage and point'n'click mechanics, a bleak surviving simulator was born. Setting the premises of an interesting story machine, with great emotional charge and intentionally difuse inspiring plot elements, this minigame served as a good prototype for our current project: A big game about despair, commitment and self-justified sacrifices, in which the player set the rules of behaviour.

We don’t want just to make the game bigger, but deeper. The remake won’t be just about surviving on a hostile planet, but to overcome several difficult situations that will expand both the storyline and universe of sergeant Burden and his crew, and will offer new moral dilemmas in order to stay alive.
For example, one of the scenarios will be about managing a hostage situation playing as the bioterrorists described on the first game: Xenolifer. While your leader hacks into the database of a space lab, you have to maintain everybody scared but calmed in order to avoid panic or a mutiny. Also, you’ll had to deal with the security forces of the lab.
As you see, this is not just about survival anymore. The resource managing stays, but every puzzle adds a twist to GWBW gameplay. You can choose to reduce the human casualties to the minimum, or maybe you just want to make useful sacrifices to save the situation: murdering one of the hostages can be really useful to keep everybody down.
We designed 6 different scenes which we expect will put you under interesting stressful situations, what kind of leader you will be? Also, we put a lot of effort in making every stage unique, don’t expect to see the same puzzle twice. For example: test experimental vaccines on your partners in order to find a cure to the virus that’s running through your veins and will kill you all in less than 48 hours... or just endure through 20 days of torture.
Moreover, we want to improve the AI of the characters. This is one thing that was left out from the original one since we ran out of time during the Ludum Dare, but we intended to change the attitude of the crew members depending on the events, deaths, and state of the full team. Some sort of “empathy system” where one action not only affects its target, but its neighbours. For example: If you kick one person on the floor, the friends morale drops down. (Yes, you will be able to kick people on the floor)
Also, since finishing the original minigame wasn’t compelling enough, we plan to add rewarding cinematics for those who complete each puzzle, which can vary depending on the ratio of success of the player (eating your friends won’t be as rewarding as keeping everybody alive!)
We want to tell a beautiful story and explore human ethics in this game, not only an amusing sci-fi plot but embedding a message and multiple interpretations for anyone who will play Gods Will Be Watching, since we feel the game has a perfect environment and mood for such thing.

Our objective is to make this game feel as complete as possible. Replayability is also a great value in a videogame so we want to add as interesting in-game content as we can.
To begin with, Gods Will Be Watching will count with a judgement system, an expanded and detailed version of the “Gods Have Been Watching” screen of the original mini game, and this time, also will rate your performance. Better ratings will unlock expanded story cinematics, concept art gallery, soundtrack... Also we are adding achievements to this game, for rewarding different play styles. But the awesome extra content comes with the goals.

Reaching as many people as possible is great. With this goal we’ll prepare multilanguage support for Spanish, French, German and Italian. (We’ll consider more languages if the funds are greater)

We don’t want to delay much more the release of the game, but in case we get a lot of support from you (thank you, seriously), we’ll create some free downloadable content after the game is out: An extra mission expanding the game universe where the backers chose (via votation). Voice acting would be TOTALLY AWESOME. But by now is completely out of reach for us. In case we reach this amazing amount, sergeant Burden will count with an epic voice for his speeches. Only in english, however.
Deconstructeam is a young team which has been built on top of 15 months of intensive work, from game jam to game jam, making games, exploring new approaches to fun, looking for new narrative ways, and experimenting with game design. From putting you in the skin of a torturer (Ages of Irving) to a post-apocalyptic steampunk hacking simulator (Newbie Conviction), Deconstructeam has been aiming to develop an unique way of fun to offer to the world. We think there are lots of unexplored areas on game design, and exploring them is a really challenging but also highly amusing task.

We are really low on funds here at Deconstructeam. We own old computers, borrowed equipment and our office is our living room.
