The GITW Team

ABOUT THE FILM

GO IN THE WILDERNESS is writer/director Elza Kephart's second feature film, based on the little-known myth of Lilith, Adam's rebellious first mate.

Where we’re at: The film has been shot and edited, with only the sound and music left to complete. Our goal is to finish the film by April 2013 in time to apply to the Toronto International Film Festival.

GO IN THE WILDERNESS was 100% independently financed, with generous support from friends, family, savings and credit cards. We need to raise an additional 30,000$ for sound post-production, for which we have teamed up with Genie Award winning sound designer Martin Pinsonnault, and Gemini Award winning composer Robert Marcel Lepage. That’s why we’re here! We are nearly there and with your help we can achieve our goal!

THE STORY

GO IN THE WILDERNESS tells the story of Lilith, Adam’s rebellious first mate, and her mysterious Guardian, as they forge an uneasy alliance on their journey back to Eden. Once in the Garden, they meet Adam and his new mate Eve, and realise that all is not as it seems in Paradise... Shot against the striking backdrop of Quebec’s remote North Coast, GO IN THE WILDERNESS presents a bold new version of the myth of creation.

THE PROJECT

GO IN THE WILDERNESS came about when I (writer/director Elza Kephart) read about the myth of Lilith in college and became determined to put this little-known character’s story on film. To find out more: http://www.gointhewilderness.com/about.php

I teamed up once more with Patricia Gomez Zlatar, producer of GRAVEYARD ALIVE – A ZOMBIE NURSE IN LOVE, my first feature. Together, we set out to make our second feature on a shoestring budget and under extremely challenging conditions.

We drove 1200 KM (745 miles) up the St-Lawrence shoreline to get the locations needed to recreate the dawn of time.

There we braved hurricanes, bears, and man-eating marshes, not to mention an army of bugs! We shot 100% outdoors, lit entirely by natural and fire light. Yep, we ladies don’t like to take the easy road…

We have received amazing support: Parks Canada and the SEPAQ (Quebec’s national parks), gave us access to their locations at practically no cost. Concept artist Henry Fong (Pacific Rim, Mirror Mirror, Immortals,) designed the costumes.

We received all kinds of sponsorships from local businesses, ranging from bottled water to editing suites. And last but not least we were lucky enough to have incredibly dedicated cast and crew, who drove 12 hours north with relative strangers, agreed to be housed in trailers, and survived on no sleep! (Every day of the campaign, we will be broadcasting one crew member’s best stories, stay tuned)

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN....

HOW INDIEGOGO WORKS

Indiegogo is an internet platform which enables projects to accept online financial contributions. The principle on which crowdfunding rests is that it is possible to raise sizeable amounts of funds through a very large number of people donating small amounts of money.

You decide how much you want to pledge and choose an associated perk. When our campaign ends, IndieGoGo takes a 4% fee off the money we’ve raised. If we don't reach our goal, the fee is 9% (which is why it's very important that we reach our goal). Another 3% goes to IndieGoGo for credit card processing fees. Every other dollar goes straight into finishing this movie!

PERKS

Your contribution of any size will go towards completing our film. To express our thanks we have put together different packages of perks, including some beautiful stills (visit the Gallery page to view our perks). Want to give more than our max level? Go right ahead! Want to donate but don't want the perks, just indicate this when you give.

We will do our best to ship them off as soon as the campaign ends. However the DVD or digital download will not be available until we secure distribution. We will ship the DVD separately from the other perks, so you get all your goodies before Christmas!

HOW ELSE CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE?

Spread the word! The success of this campaign depends on getting as many people to notice as possible. Share the Indiegogo page, like the GITW page on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and if you have a blog write about the film! This is just as important as a financial contribution.

LEGAL STUFF

We will do our best to get your rewards to you in a timely manner. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the delivery time frame for the film until it has found a distributor.  However we will mail you all the other rewards as soon as the campaign is over.

FAQ

Here are some questions I have been getting last week so I thought I would reply here:

Why are we using Indiegogo and not Kickstarter?

#1-We are Canadian. You have to have an American resident as part of your team whose bank account you can use to disburse the funds. If I really wanted to do this I could, but I do not want to cause potential fiscal problems to my friends if the IRS comes a knocking.

#2-I don’t believe that with all the work we are putting in we should not get all the funds people have pledged. Micro-financing should not be a race, or a gimmick, but a new way to finance either parts or whole projects. What counts is getting people to support your project to get you further ahead.

Why is the teaser so short/I am not sure of the story?

We didn’t want to have too long of a teaser, as we are already asking you to ingest a lot of material. We want you to see a glimpse of the film and, through that, support the rest of our vision. You can find out more about the story by going to our website: www.gointhewilderness.com or watching the slightly longer trailer in the gallery.

What happens if you don’t raise all the financing?

We will finish this project no matter what. It might take a little longer, but your money WILL NOT go to waste, or to buying Elza some shiny new pants.

You can contact us directly with the rest of your questions at: info@gointhewilderness.com
