ABOUT ME & THE PROJECT
I am a Berliner, born and raised in Kreuzberg. After graduating from school at the age of nineteen, I signed on a French catamaran, crossed the Atlantic and worked as a sailor in the Caribbean. I finally landed in the USA because I got hooked on the idea to ride a horse in the wild west. Half a year later, I had castrated 700 calves, spent my nights in wagons, eaten my beans at a campfire and performed cattle drives and rodeos. Finally, I had got my own quarter horse and crossed Oklahoma and Texas with my lasso and my colt on my belt.
My journey ended in L.A. I badly wanted to see Hollywood. I went straight up to Universal Studios and suddenly found myself standing next to Richard Thomas, the famous „JOHN-BOY“ from the WALTONS, with his birthmark on his left cheek. I thought to myself: „Great!, This is where they all are! And? How could it be any different? Ever since then, I remained in the film industry....
A few years later I started my directing course at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin – I'm currently completing my thesis film, a feature film of 90 minutes called GLUTNESTER („ember nests“).
We have no state funding or support from broadcasters. We're working with a minimal budget. The entire team and the actors are working for free to realize the project – we are sleeping on mattresses on the ground in empty rooms that we can stay in for free.
That's why I'm here!
I need your help!
ABOUT THE FILM
GLUTNESTER is set in Schönwalde II, a district of the city of Greifswald, Eastern Germany. Schönwalde II was built in 1974 as a developing area with its industrialized apartment blocks for the workers of the nuclear power plant in Lubmin. However, the power plant was shut down in 1992. Ever since, Schönwalde II has suffered from a state of high unemployment which is dominating the lives and perspectives of the local families to the present day.
GLUTNESTER tells the story of fifteen-year-old Jenny, who his forced to leave her home in Frankfurt to move to Schönwalde II as the result of her father's death, but revolts with the defiant and confident energy of a teenager against the omnipresent lack of perspective. Lost between the bleak concrete buildings, she slowly starts to open herself up to the new environment, make friends, and is finally forced to reach a decision for herself to find her place.
The film tells the story of a social background that is shaped by poverty, violence and a lack of care in which many adolescents grow up, and the importance of reaching decisions for oneself and fighting for them.
It tells the story of children and adolescents who have retained the strength and courage to face this social environment with positive life energy.
WHO IS IN THE FILM - ABOUT MY WORK
For the roles of children and juveniles, I quite consciously decided to cast local children and adolescents. This way, the authenticity and energy, which is so important to me in the movie, is assured. Please check my updates from the filming to find out what this means for my work as a director and the many surprises that result from this decision!
For adult roles I cast professionel actors. Through this constellation of amateur and professional actors, as well as the additional pairing of the different generations, each scene develops its own dynamic. Each amateur reacts differently to each actor.
Consequently, our way of casting has a major influence on my work and its implementation:
I'm working in an area between choreography, documentary and improvisation.
Consequently, in the script there are no fixed dialogues and the character development is rather open. This allows me to remain flexible during the filming and to develop the core of each scene on the set together with my actors.
To date, this method has proven productive and creative.
Most of the film projects presented on this platform aim to have their final budget before shooting begins. We instead have already started shooting.
So, what do we want here?
Well, we started shooting despite the underfunded budget which, in the long term, will not suffice.
Thanks to the huge support from a lot of people and thanks to the commitment of a wonderful cast and team, which –without exception – waived their salaries, accepted to sleep on mattresses on the floor, and accepted a very basic catering we manage to shoot.
But after that……
After shooting, the film will still need to go through the entire postproduction process. It will need to be edited, mixed, scored and color corrected. To complete the film and to bring it to the movies we need your financial support. We will need to produce PR Material, we have to do marketing, we need to produce DVDs and..
The thing we always keep in mind is that we owe a huge debt of gratitude to everyone who contributed to this film by waiving their salaries.
What to do with the left over money?
In the case that the crowdfunding is so successful and, in case we receive more pledges than we need for financing the movie, the left-over money will be spent for the maintenance of the the youth center “Labyrinth” in Schönwalde II.
HOW CAN YOU HELP
No matter how – if you directly buy a pledge here or spread the word to your favorite internet platforms - every action of yours can be of great support to our movie! „SPREAD THE WORD“ AND HELP US TO GET THE MOVIE ON SCREEN
WHERE THE MONEY GOES
Each and every penny will flow into the making of the film as well the “Labyrinth” youth center, if possible.
GETTING YOUR PERKS
As soon as the time for buying a pledge has run out, we will immediately provide you with your rewards and further information on the movie. As some rewards are dependent on the finalization of the movie, it is obvious that we can only send you those specific ones later.
THE BIGGEST THANK YOU GOES TO
Ira Tondowski, der ich von ganzem Herzen dafür danke, dass sie mich bei meinem Schaffen inspiriert hat!
