We are Girls on Top Productions!
Meet Annie To, a native to LA. She graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Media Studies and has taken a few wild classes at El Camino College. When she is not doing background work for many of the top sitcoms on TV, she spends her time writing and acting for other projects.
Meet Courtney Michelle Enea, an actress stemming from the Bay Area. Courtney is a graduate of the University of San Diego with a B.A. in Theater Performance. She has acted in over 40 theatrical and film productions. She consistently keeps herself in acting, directing, and writing projects and classes such as Groudlings Improv.
Meet Kailena Mai, a Seattle native who graduated from the University of Washington Drama school and continues to study in LA, taking classes from Howard Fine and Upright Citizens Brigade. She has acted in and directed many productions and in 2013 she craves to write.
These three women met after being cast in a children's play entitled "Wag Your Tail." Courtney and Kailena played two pet dogs who had a life full of adventures and Annie played the neighborhood cat. The play brought creativity, wackiness, and laughter into each cast member's lives as well as the lives of the audience. When the play ended, the girls did not want the fun to stop, so they decided to rally together and create their own production company, Girls on Top Productions(GTP).
In January of 2013 GTP put on their first show entitled, "First Encounters of the Human Kind: A Short Play Festival about Strangers." The short plays turned into a series of comedy sketches of sorts. The audience gave rave reviews of the witty writing and humor, which propelled the girls to take their comedy one step further - filming it and bringing it to you via the web.
A GOTPro Favorite Quote:
"Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand." -Mark Twain
These women want to create a program that pushes against the worthless reality television shows and soap opera dramas. They want to make you think and feel, relate, and basically, laugh your butt off. The series would take a comic approach to examining the lives of this generation and what it means to be a female in this day and age. Each episode would be roughly 15 minutes of sketch comedy--exploring situations that push the envelope when discussing American society and taking inspiration from programs such as SNL, Mad TV, and In Living Color.
This program is important to Annie, Courtney, and Kailena not only because they cherish laughter as part of every day life, but because it is a vehicle for them to create. It becomes increasingly harder to compete with Hollywood films and television and they want a way to put their art out there.
What We Need & What You Get
Contributions will help GTP achieve the goal of putting together its own art by paying for camera operators and equipment. It will also help the company pay its actors and crew for the time and energy spent on memorizing, rehearsing, and sweating to pull off a performance.
The goal is to raise at least $10,000 to pay for
- camera equipment
- location rentals and permits (yes, shop owners do charge for filming on their premises.)
- cast and crew gas stipends
- cast and crew meals
- union actors
- film editors
- sound technicians
If GTP reaches its goal, it will be able to film a full season (10 to 15 webisodes) and you will be able to watch and laugh and know that you helped make it possible. Not reaching the goal will mean paying a larger fee to indiegogo for the usage of their site for campaigning.
$10,000 is low budget and GTP is not asking for much. Even a donation of $3--the price of one cup of coffee--will be meaningful; if everyone did that the goal could be reached in no time! However, if you are willing to donate more, we have gifts to give! Below is a list of incentives to help you, help GOTPro reach their goal.
IF YOU DONATE :
$50 - You will receive a shout out on GTP's Facebook page and twitter account.
$100 - You will receive a shout out from GTP as well as a shout out from our director, Myke Adams, on his production company's Facebook page (Artec Pictures). GTP and Artec would be happy to post any contact information for you if you have your own business, projects or endeavors you want to promote.
$200 - All of the above and a shout out on our Directors personal Facebook Page.
$500 - All of the above and a special thanks on GTP's website when we launch the webseries, as well as a special thanks in the credits on IMDB.
$1,000 - All of the above and a photo placement in one of the Girls on Top Webseries webisodes. You can email firstname.lastname@example.org with a picture of you. It will then be framed and placed on set in one of the scenes so that you are in the webseries too!
*If you donate any of these amounts and want to remain anonymous that fine too.
Helping GTP reach its goal to create the Girls on Top Webseries will only be the first snowball in an avalanche of projects. These dedicated members of GTP have had success after success because of their determination, hard work, and creativity. What started out as a children's musical led way to the formation of a company fighting for the passions of other actors and production members to create art that relates and not just art that is expendable.
If this web-series takes off, GTP will have that much more inspiration and motivation to continue to create performance art that changes and inspires the lives of others. It's really one big circle.
