GET ON BOARD with THE SOJOURNERS! This train is BOUND FOR GLORY, and we'd like to invite you to ride along.
The Sojourners are nothing without all of you. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated and passionate group of followers and supporters! As the band has evolved, our fans have always been there to support us and help keep our special brand of music alive, and there are no words to express our gratitude. You've given us the freedom to undertake our journey, and we're about ready to head on down the tracks!
In May of this year we will be back in the studio to record our 3rd full length album. Our last studio album, The Sojourners, was a great success and garnered a Juno nomination and a Western Canadian Music Award. The new project will continue to serve our core message of social justice and to draw from the inspiration of the quartet and jubilee groups of the 30s and 40s; and of course the ongoing themes of the civil rights movement. We will continue to deliver the rich harmonies and arrangements you've come to expect—with a few delicious twists! Or as the late, great Ira Tucker would call them, trickerations.
We've decided to have a go at producing this one ourselves, so this is a new adventure for us. We've had a personnel change since the last release, and this is our first chance to record what Marcus, Will and Khari have been presenting live on stage for the past couple of years.
The album will be recorded and mixed at Afterlife Studios in Vancouver, BC. It's an incredibly simpatico space, and we're beyond excited that we have the chance to record an album there with engineer John Raham. We're co-producing with our good friend Paul Pigat, who has been leading our live touring band, and whose world class guitar chops will be front and centre, along with our stellar deep in-the-pocket rhythm section, comprising our standup guy Rob Becker on bass, and our main man Geoff Hicks on drums.
The CD will be released in September 2013, after which we will be touring it live around the world. We're in the process of booking dates in Canada, the U.K., the U.S., and Australia. We'll be certain to keep you updated on our progress.
How Does the Money Work and Where Does It Go?
We're using the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform to help reach the goals that we’ve set to make this album possible. We’ve put together a collection of rewards and opportunities that we hope will entice you to join us on our journey, no matter what your budget! This is not a collection plate. This is an invitation to travel along with us! Please have a look at the perks listed on your right and book a seat in the car of your choice. If you would prefer to contribute in a manner other than through this online forum, please drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be most happy to discuss alternatives.
Every dollar earned from your generous contribution will go directly into the production and promotion of this album. Studio time, producers and engineers, musicians, artwork, video, mastering, distribution, manufacturing, marketing and promotion are just some of the costs associated with making an album independently. The total cost of producing this album and getting it into your hands is approximately double what our initial Indiegogo goal is set at.
If we are able to exceed our target we will carry on down the tracks, attaching additional cars and opportunities at stations along the way. We'll add the caboose with something special as we near our final destination. And remember: we'll be posting updates for everyone as we ride along together.
We can’t thank you all enough for your generosity. We look forward to sharing our new music with you and seeing you all on the road when we start to tour this project around the world! Please, help spread the word among your family and friends, and invite them to GET ON BOARD AND JOIN THE SOJOURNERS TEAM!
