As part of my senior project at Maharishi University of Management, while pursuing my B.S. in Sustainable Living, I will be creating an online guide to modifying RVs to be off the grid and I hope to find a Class C rig that I can implement all these super grand ideas!!!!!!! I will:
*Buy an older model RV.
*MAKE solar panels for the RV.
*BUILD an RV-sized wind turbine.
*Create a water catchment system.
*Install a portable compost toilet.
*Build portable garden beds.
*Convert the engine to straight vegetable oil, if that is an option.'
*I hear rumors of a photovoltaic paint....really, paint that works like a solar panel, could this be real?
*Sustainable flooring...I wonder if bamboo floors, which are super sustainable, would work in an RV...hmmmm
*Any other natural resource modifications I discover along the way!
*Oh, if anyone wanted to DONATE a ready-to-drive RV that you are inspired to see be modified, well, I'd have to say I'd love ya forever!
When this project is complete and I am happily graduated, I will travel the U.S., visiting and working at sustainable communities/ecovillages to continue learning and teaching what I have learned through this project. The knowledge just keeps on flowin! The thought of seeing the world, meeting and talking to amazing people throughout the U.S., all while tiptoeing for my ecological footprint brings me so much joy and hope. There are so many possibilities and new technologies that can be embraced in order to live a healthy and happy life that leaves the planet not only the same as how we left it, but in even better shape. This core idea is what inspires me the most.
If you would like see what I have learned and done so far, then I'd be tickled pink for you to look at my blog: http://getagirloffthegrid.wordpress.com/
This is where I will keep an active online journal of the work I do on the RV as well as document my travels and future projects that come along the way. Isn't this an exciting journey?????
