GeoPress is a Geo-Social Mapping Platform, the first OpenSource GPL based Geo-System of its kind, which will allow users to create maps, check-in to nearby places and in-turn create their very own Location-Based Services and (or) geo-social-networks.

The reason for seeking this funding is to be able to get this project to a 1.0 release version as early as possible, for with my present work commitments, I only have one day a week to work on this project, where the US$15,000 I am seeking would allow me to spend up-to 4 months full-time and get this project to an acceptable 1.0 release. The only costs not covered by the US$15,000 include the costs that will be needed for the additional mobile application development (for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android support), where we will need to otherwise use simple mobile-compatible web-application interface for remote check-ins and traveling geo-support.

Without additional funding, this project could take anywhere between 12 to 24 months to complete.

Ultimately, we want to build a geo-social-platform where people can interact with their local environments through a semi-virtual world using there own self-hosted geo-networks or mobile devices, where they can tag people, places and locations use virtually rewarded equipment to unlock new paths and equally exciting new and creative ways to socialize both online and in the real world.

We want to build a platform that will allow other developers to build their own Location Based Services that utilize the following core geo-components:

  • Maps
  • Places
  • Checkins
  • Movements
  • Actions
  • People
  • Objects
