Gelareh - My life, My music
Kamancheh/Voice - Classical music of Iran
As a female musician in Iran Gelareh has faced many challenges. Government restrictions on performance and public display make it impossible for females to sing in Iran unless in a group or accompanied by males. These are just some of the challenges faced daily by females in Iran.
Now based in Australia Gelareh is determined to make a positive contribution to the development of young musicians in Iran and help to provide the same rare opportunity that has seen her become a master of her craft.
With this focus Gelareh has recorded a full length album featuring some of Australia’s best improvising talent including Andrew Polydorou (guitar), Brian O'Dwyer (Piano/Percussion) and a world first collaboration with Adam Simmons featuring Kamanche and Shakuhaci.
What We Need :)
To finish this album we need $3000. All the recording is complete and through some pro bono studio time we've been able to mix the majority of it. What we need now is to finish mixing and master the recording, then we need to have it pressed ready to distribute. Our target goal here would allow us to finish the album and start raising funds for instruments.
This truly is a remarkable record. Gelareh’s mastery of classical Persian music blends magically in an array of settings and configurations showing the true beauty of her art and purity of sound.
This album in many ways throws caution to the wind as most of these recordings would not pass Government regulation in Iran and therefore would be considered forbidden.
The music has a depth of praise and love for Persian culture and what it has to offer, however its mere existence is considered by some as a sign of disrespect.
Supporting this record supports open collaboration; it supports the sharing of ideas and the celebration of culture.
The power of music saved Gelareh and showed her that through art a positive and meaningful contribution can be made to the world, it is her dream that through this project she will be able to present her abilities and help other young people struggling to find meaning find a purpose and a means to express themselves to the world.
