Hello! My name is Morgan Finlay and I am a Canadian singer-songwriter, currently living and creating in Vancouver, BC. My absolute passion is to create music that touches hearts and minds, and I've been recording my fifth release, 'Latitude' with an eye to releasing the best songs of my career.
This record will mark four years since my last one, and personally, it represents a creative high-point. My vision is to share this music, with as many people as is possible. But to do so, I need your help.
I am asking fans and supporters of my songs, to help me raise the money needed to mix and master these recordings, print a great booklet, publicize our efforts and help me take these songs back to the stage.
This release will not be a typical album launch, in that it will be a digital release. I believe that the manufacturing of the plastic CD cases and the CDs is a wasteful process, and in this day and age, pointless beyond the first couple of listens. However I do want to have a visual document to accompany the album's songs, so we will make a beautiful black and white booklet featuring a collection of images, lyrics, credits, stories and more.
With this booklet will come a sticker/card, that will be printed with a code that you can use to download the album. If you really want a hard copy CD, it will be possible but will cost a bit more money.
This record has also not been typical because it has been shaped by fans, virtually from the start.
Up to this point, fans have chosen the songs for the record, and have pitched in to produce music videos to accompany the album's release (in no particular order: Kaddy, Joe, Hanna, Justus, Nina, Stefan, and Dominik). The next logical step, in connecting with people who actually care about these songs, has been to put the completion of the album and my subsequent tour to Europe up here on IndieGoGo as a project, to raise money to make it actually come out right.
(Note: I would love to come and play in your town too, wherever you are-- let's talk!)
'Latitude' features brilliant performances by some amazing creatives. Contributing their musical talents to the album are guitarist Dean Drouillard (Sarah Harmer, Royal Wood), cellist Mike Olsen (Arcade Fire, Hidden Cameras), bassist Marlow Holder (Kinnie Starr, Zubot and Dawson), drummer Brendan Hamley (David Celia, Anton Barbeau), and accordionist Katheryn Petersen. The photos and graphics for the album's booklet will be the work of the talented Dominik Dunsch (dunsch-photography.com).
What I Need & What You Get
I need to raise $5000 to cover the cost of the albums production, its marketing and a three-week European tour to support it. As such, Im turning to my strongest supporters, my fans, and offering perks and exclusives in return for helping me make it happen.
Here's the break-down of the costs (total $5000):
the mixing and mastering of the album -- (500 + 500 = 1000)
the album booklet printing -- 1000
hiring a publicity company -- 750
the flights over to Europe and back -- 1250
the costs of a Europass train pass -- 1000
With your support, I can concentrate on
preparing, promoting and practicing for the tour.
Every penny will go towards the above necessities. Should I be lucky enough to raise more than the $5000, the entire surplus will be dedicated to further promoting the album, and subsidizing the tour. Aside from merchandise and other tangible and interesting perks, you'll get my sincere gratitude and the satisfaction of knowing that you've played a vital role in getting my music out there.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you would like to see me hit the stage near you, the best way to help is by pre-ordering my album, or purchasing one of the perks on the right! This will enable the album, then the tour, which will enable still other things...
BUT, even if you can't do this, if you
could just pass this on to any of your friends I would be really very
grateful. Please link them through to this campaign, and to either
the new music that you've uncovered, or... this artist friend of
yours that you've been following, who is finally launching his best
album yet. Thank you!
