Short Summary

Get Lucid! is teaming up with the Attic Youth Center for a fundraising drive! Over the next few months, we will be raising money on this site, and our drive will culminate in a February 1st Get Lucid! Activist Dance Party at Underground Arts!

The Attic Youth Center is the only organization in Philadelphia exclusively serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth.

The Attic’s goal is to reduce the isolation felt by LGBTQ youth by providing a sense of community and developing programs and services to counteract the prejudice and oppression that LGBTQ youth often face. Find out more at www.atticyouthcenter.org.

Through this fundraising drive, Get Lucid! The Activist Dance Party aims to raise $3000 for the general operation of the Attic, and this allows them to keep their doors open for about 45 to 65 LGBTQ youth each day. What We Need & What You Get

In today’s climate of intense need yet limited resources, acquiring the funds for a social service can be next to impossible. On top of that, even when an organization does receive funding, they are usually heavily constrained in the ways that they can use the money. This often results in an organization having the funds to run a particular program, yet barely being able to keep the electricity on! For this reason, Get Lucid! is looking at the big picture, and we are raising money to help offset the general operating costs of the Attic. In raising $3000 your money will go towards keeping the electricity, water, phone line, and internet on at the Attic for years to come! Ultimately, this will help keep the Attic a safe, secure, and comfortable place for LGBTQ youth in Philadelphia.

In gratitude for your generous donations, we would like to show you some generosity in return.

Donate $15 or more and we’ll give you a free ticket to our Get Lucid! Activist Dance Party at Underground Arts on February 1st 2013 (the culminating celebration of this fundraising drive!)

Donate $50 or more and you'll receive a free Attic Graffix T-shirt designed by youth at the Attic!

Donate $100 or more and you will be cordially invited to a dinner with cocktails on February 1st 2013 before heading over to the Activist Dance Party at Underground Arts.

The Impact

To give you an idea of why the Attic’s services are so important to our dear city of Philadelphia, take a look at their track record!

Since 1993, over 10,000 LGBTQ youth and youth allies have walked through the doors of The Attic Youth Center.  Whether youth are seeking a caring adult to talk to, a safe space to express their identity, activities to participate in after school, or assistance with finding housing or a job, The Attic strives to have a positive impact on many aspects of their lives.

The Attic consistently evaluates its programming in effort to assure that each youth who participates in Attic services and activities grows and thrives. Over time, The Attic has found that consistent participation in Attic programming leads to:

  • Increased positive behavior/personal and social responsibility
  • Increased social and emotional competencies (e.g. interpersonal skills, adapatibility, teamwork)
  • Increased leadership capacity (e.g. public speaking, group facilitiation, advocacy)
  • Improved literacy, study skills, and academic competencies
  • Improved job aquisition skills
  • Increased 21st century skills (e.g. information technology literacy, critical thinking, creativity and innovation, etc.)
  • Improved school attendance
