My name is Sherif Sadek. I'm a Cairo-born, Queens, NY-based filmmaker. Like many Egyptians of my generation, I had been hoping for change in my homeland for a long time. When the people revolted in January 2011, I couldn't leave my wife and children to join that movement. But a year later, I was determined not to miss the first anniversary.
My film is about what happened in the preceeding year and what challengs that country faces as it strives to be the largest democracy in the Middle East. This project is very important to me because I aspire to influence people to remain hopeful and continue the revolution until it achieves its goal of changing the order of things.
With your help, we can get this message to people, not just in Egypt, but around the world. The Egyptian Revolution was an inspiration to many young people in other countries, including here in New York and many other parts of the US.
What We Need & What You Get
We are asking our families, our friends, and our fans for $10,000. The main expenses that we need for the project to be fully completed are sound, post-production, and marketing.
There are a few songs that need to be replaced with original music, and other songs that need to be licensed. The colors need to be adjusted and more visual effects are to be added, including maps of the city of Cairo to give more context for the viewer. If we don't get 100% (or more) of the money we're asking for, there are a few cutbacks that we'll have to make, like licensing cheaper music instead of our first choice songs, or using simpler graphics rather than the more professional look we were going for.
But most importantly, we will be able to continue to get the word out, and apply to more festivals, and market the heck out of this project.
When you contribute to this award-winning project, you will help spread this message of hope. The revolution MUST continue. And though this film is but a very small contribution to the real revolution on the ground, each one of us has a role to play in the revolution, no matter how small it may seem. Each step - be it big or small - taken towards the goal of a free and democratic Egypt is an important one.
This is my biggest project yet, but I've been making films for the past 11 years and have been working in the film industry for 9 years. This is it! Help me make this film the most important one yet! Help me make this project a film we can all be proud of!
Other Ways You Can Help
We are asking people for a financial contribution, but there are also other as important ways to help. Make noise about our campaign. Share the Facebook page. Retweet. Forward the emails to your friends. The more publicity there is about our project, the easier it is to get into big film festivals and widen our audiences and reach more people.
Indiegogo has sharing tools built in the pages, so make sure you use them!
AND THANK YOU!!! WITHOUT YOU THIS PROJECT WOULDN'T BE POSSIBLE.
