The Story of Foreign Matter

Hi there, I'm Martin John, a comic creator for the last two years, a comic fan for life. In my day job I am a barber and I cut a damn good head of hair. If you are ever in Toronto drop by the House of Lords for a haircut and a discussion about comics.

So far, German Ponce and I have produced one volume of our adventure tale that Kurtis Wiebe (Green Wake, Peter Panzerfaust) has hailed as "A balls to the wall story that makes the superhero genre its own." One part, the Isle of Doctor Moureau and one part Superman, German and I want to bring you the conclusion of this EPIC tale.

We are looking to make the last chapter of the book, Foreign Matter Volume #2, 180 pages (about) of black and white comics. Making this comic has been a dream come true for German and I, it is something that we love to do, and would like to continue doing. We have done this completely independantly of any publisher, but the costs are getting to a point where I am afraid I won't be able to fund the complete cost of Foreign Matter Volume #2 by myself.

By contributing, you will allow us to bring you the second volume of our adventure tale to you. This is something we can only dream of, hope for and come out in public a second time to ask for some funding. If you have ever had a creative dream you understand what I am going through, the bittersweet taste of being so close to finishing, but having the fear in your mind that you won't be able to fund it completely, leaving it unfinished.

The $5000 I am asking for will all go to German Ponce, so you are funding an artist in his works, someone breaking waves in the Indie scene. He draws for a small page rate of only $60 a page, plus some small promise of backend pay, but this is enough to keep him in art supplies, food, and a roof over his head as we work on Foreign Matter. 

What you are getting. Well we have an entire OGN that we have completed that you can get in various forms, digitally, or in print, all 168 black and white pages. We are also offering a subscription that nets you all the comleted chapters of Foreign Matter, and as we complete the new ones, a PDF mailer of the chapters as they are finished. And for those that are willing to wait, you can get the second completed volume sent to you. We are keeping this simple. We are publishing a comic and we are offering you comics and a combination of ways of getting them, digitally and in physical form, old and new.

If we don't reach the goal, the money will still go to German, to supporting an artist in his making of art and to funding our comic.

German and I are creating comics with no higher purpose than to entertain the hell out of you. If we can do that for fifteen dollars and you can enjoy it than we have done our job. We are two hard-working guys with days jobs that just want to create something that we are proud of, and that we, and you can enjoy. I can vouch for both volumes as being full of crazy wonderful action/adventure with a storyline you have never seen before.
