Who We Are
THD (Those Happy Days) is a nonprofit collective of artists dedicating their work to stop-motion animation. We (Emanuel Nevado and Ricardo Almeida) founded the collective in 2009, and created together our first short animated film, that won a first prize on animation in a Portuguese festival.
In 2010, with a slightly larger group of people we made a short animated film related to the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion that was also a prize winner and well received in several international film festivals.
Today, THD has a working group with 10 active elements that come from different education backgrounds like cinema, architecture, photography, sculpture, painting, metallurgy, design, animation. Our passion for animation and in particular for traditional stop-motion made us reach this far.
The film is about a modest village girl, Margueritte, who is intended to marry the village king, a frightening man with the strangest beard, generally called Blue Beard. Once married and acquainted with the castle and its owner, the girl becomes less and less frightened and, taken by her curiosity she drifts into secrets and mysteries that should never be disclosed.
The script is a suspense/horror adaptation from the fairy tale "Bluebeard" from Charles Perrault, French writer from the XVII century, whose fairy tales were transmitted through generations and will continue in our imaginary for many many years. The best known of his tales include "Cinderella", "Little Red Riding Hood", "Puss in Boots"...
We are just about to complete our third short film production, the longest we have ever tried to produce, with about 18 minutes long. This is a project with no financing, counting on the artists’ voluntary work, some material donations and some money coming from a small prize we won with one of our previous animation short-film. The film will be released by Jan 2013.
The money you help raise will allow us to finish the sound post-production, pay for the music copyrights, and set a website for promotion of the film. Donations will also enable us to submit to film festivals and produce promotional material which will help the film to be seen by a wider audience.
