The DC Fitness Community is vibrant, diverse, and full of options, and FitDC is arriving soon to help you choose from these options. When was the last time you decided to try out a new workout? How long did it take for you to make that decision and actually get into the class or gym? With all of the options out there, and multiple locations, schedules, difficulty levels, and prices, beginning a fitness routine, or changing up the one you have can be a research project in itself, and you don’t have time for that! Welcome to FitDC, the central place to find out about and compare your fitness options. We’re also here to personally help you sort through these variables to help determine the right fit for you.
Who Is FitDC
FitDC is the brainchild of C.J. Cross. An athlete since childhood, C.J. is passionate about fitness. After graduating with a degree in business and spending several years in a traditional 9-5, while also working other jobs like bartending and database maintenance, C.J. felt drawn back to the world of athletics and so he traded in his suit and tie for a pair of running shorts to become a personal trainer and run coach. Throughout the years, C.J. has helped hundreds of people find their footing in the gym and, through these experiences, learned a great deal about the trials people face when attempting to start new fitness routines. Reflecting on these interactions, C.J. began to conceptualize ways to make this process easier and so FitDC was born.
Knowing that a project like this needs a team, C.J. reached out to his network of cohorts and brought together the team of Mia Rommel, Chris Gillyard, Caroline Bogucki, and Colleen Lerro. Together, along with a dozen or so other fitness professionals and enthusiasts that are now part of the FitDC ambassador core, FitDC is poised to help hundreds--likely thousands-- of people change the course of their health. Do us a favor, pop onto your favorite search engine and look up the difference between 3 gyms in your neighborhood. On second thought, please don’t, because you’ll be gone for half an hour and we don’t want you getting frustrated. If you decide to attempt a traditional web-search for your ideal gym, you’ll find that no search engine is truly designed to handle the complexities of your search. That’s where we come in. We care about fitness and want to make it easier for people to start new routines that will lead to healthier lifestyles, so we are taking on the legwork for you.
Through FitDC, fitness seekers will be able to use the FitBase to search for the specific fitness services that meet their needs, talk with our fitness advisors to assess goals, and connect directly with the right facility or service provider.
Fitness professionals, and those that run local facilities, will be able to create and edit FitDC profiles, publish class times and services, and interact with the community. This way, they can easily share specials, promote new classes, and get a feel for what people are looking for.
FitDC is an online community for the fitness world, built by fitness insiders to meet the needs of our community, regardless of fitness level.
What Your Help Will Do
We’ve been hard at work building the database, setting up the website design, interacting with members of the community, and learning about what it is that people want and need. We’re in this to help both fitness seekers and fitness professionals. Your contributions will be going to help fund database data collection efforts, recruitment of our fitness advisors, and the education of our staff. For every extra dollar raised, you are contributing to man-hours put towards accelerating a fully updated database and advisory staff. FitDC is committed to keeping the money local and hiring local fitness professionals and enthusiasts to provide the advice and connect with gyms, studios, and fitness professionals.
With Your Help
FitDC will be a place where people can find anything health related and fitness professionals will be able to expand their businesses. We will be offering special events to connect people with the greater fitness community and, through our blog, presenting our community with valuable health and fitness information.
