Throughout the film, the audience is taken on a tour through an
abandoned building, experiencing the physical and emotional process of three
young people set out to explore. Guided by a spirit, the explorers
are encouraged to look beyond the rubble into the soul of a space once
unarguably beautiful, but now neglected and forgotten. The story is illustrated through choreographed movement
married with film technique built on the foundation of an original score.
Through the blending of these mediums, the film challenges the audience by
asking: does our environment determine our movement or can we determine our
movement from within, and by doing so, shape the environment?
About UsThis project is a visionary alliance between Wade Rodgers (Writer/Director) and Heidi Draskoci-Johnson (Choreographer); two artists originally from Winona, MN. The director is a recent graduate of Columbia College Chicago with a B.A. in Film and Video and the choreographer is the Artistic Director of Two Lakes Dance Project, a collective seeking non-profit status dance performance troupe based out of Winona.
*Why We Need Your Help*We were able to raise enough funds to support most of the initial production of this film, however, our costs to do the following are not covered:
- Film festival submission fees (an average of $50 per submission)
- Recording the score (as of now the score is simply rendered with software)
- DVD pressing and distribution (without real distribution, the cost for this is ours alone)
- Uncovered production costs (in actuality, the cost for production was not entirely met)
While the film is "finished", we hope that it might be seen by and affect as many people as possible! Our plan is to submit Inertia to a wide variety of festivals ranging from international, to local, and to specifically within the dance genre. In addition, we hope to screen it at a diversity of venues. It would be a shame for this film to be made yet not viewed.
We could not afford to record the score with real musicians although they are already in place and dedicated to this project. As of now, the score has been rendered with computer software, but it lacks the warmth and body of live musicians. In short, it is noticeably incomplete.
We obviously need the ability to release this film on DVD for people to enjoy in their homes. As a completely independent film, we don't have a distributor who can cover the costs required to do so. Many individuals have already shared their desire to own the DVD.
The cost of production was too great to be completely covered by our means. The director absorbed all of the extra costs necessary to make it causing tremendous financial strain. What we're asking for here is an incredibly small fraction of that cost, but it would still help. We should note however, this is the least of our concerns.
Unfortunately, none of these things are possible right now, but they will be with your help!
