Fallout Shelter is an exciting new short film set in the North of England during the early sixties, written and directed by Oliver Murray, a B.A. (Hons.) Director at the Northern Film School.
What's it all about?
Fallout Shelter is set in Leeds in October 1962. A world nuclear war looms and an innocent man is wanted for murder.
George, a young rocker is on the run from the police - wanted for a gang related murder he did not commit. Handcuffed and uninvited, he takes refuge in a seemingly empty house whilst the police look for him. The odds are stacked against George, regardless of his innocence it is likely he will be found guilty.
Meanwhile radios nationwide blare with news surrounding the Cuban missile crisis, news of impending all out nuclear war between East and West. George is soon confronted by the owner of the house, an old blind veteran of the First World War, an immigrant from Jamaica called Robert.
In a time when nations were prepared to annihilate one and other with the push of button, a blind man has to choose between believing the supposed innocence of a rough looking stranger and helping him, or giving him up to the police...
So what makes our project special?
Fallout Shelter is fresh and original, it hosts not only a mix of nail biting drama and suspense, but also showcases important social themes of the early 1960s with sobering reality; covering the threat of nuclear war, racism and prejudice within British society.
Why we need your help
We have very high hopes for this project but as is often the case our creativity is limited by financial restraints.
Any financial assistance that you give will really help to do what is a great script justice, absorbing our audience into the world of the early 1960s is paramount. Regardless of whether we reach our total fundraising goal or not, all of the money we do raise will go straight to visual production costs:
- Money will go to the production design department; such as rental for costumes and set dressings to bring the early sixties back.
- Our access to sufficient camera equipment is limited for a project of this quality and scope, you would be helping us cover the costs of professional camera hire for the entire shoot as well as hiring a set of prime lenses and LED panel lighting, etc.
At the end of the day
Fallout Shelter is a chance for us as graduating B.A. film students (aspiring to eventually attain work out in the industry) to create a fantastic short film with huge resonance. It's an exciting, fun and meaningful project, made about a period of social and political uncertainty seldom covered in film. With all that in mind, we're confident that with your help we can make a film of the highest standard, proudly entering it into film festivals nationwide.
Any help, no matter how large or small really means a great deal to us.
But if you can't help us financially, then please feel free to spread the word, tell your friends, spread it on Facebook and Twitter. We really appreciate it!
