What’s this play about?
Briar Rose & the Thirteenth Fairy tells the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty through the eyes of both the hero and the villain. Weaving together the narratives of storytelling greats Perrault, Basile, Walt Disney, and The Brothers Grimm, playwright Caroline Angell has re-imagined a very old story for an audience of all ages.
What happens when you wake up one morning and 100 years has passed you by? How do you protect the innocence of your children in a world where evil is ever-present? And what's the best way to keep your Horse's snotty attitude in check? The universal questions posed by this timeless fairy tale are addressed in a charming, hilarious, and occasionally terrifying manner in this new production, presented by Everyday Inferno.
So, is this a children's show?
Didn't we just say it's for "all ages"? Our play is based on several versions of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale and explores mature themes that will appeal to an adult audience. It's also very funny and contains puppets, fairies, and a talking fish. Your clever and discerning children will be delighted by it as well.
Who is Everyday Inferno?
We are a newly-formed New York City theatre company built around a core of collaborating theater artists. Briar Rose & the Thirteenth Fairy will be the company’s first fully staged production and will combine the talents of all four of the company’s current collaborators: Caroline Angell (Playwright), Gina Femia (Creative Consultant), Anais Koivisto (Director), and Katherine Sommer (Producer).
Do you have a mission statement or something like that so I know what you believe in?
Well, since you ask… Everyday Inferno is devoted to creating adventurous theatrical productions of both new and classic texts. We seek to exceed the conventional limitations of low-budget theatre by exploring nontraditional spaces, stagecraft, and storytelling. We are committed to developing a diverse audience by producing work that is large in scope while keeping our production costs (and ticket prices) at a minimum.
Seems like you spent a lot of time writing that…
Yes. Yes we did.
What will I actually be paying for?
Producing theatre in New York is an expensive proposition, even for a small fringe company like us. Your donation (whether it’s $1 or $1,000) will go directly toward getting our show up on the stage, with the largest amount going to space rental and to paying the actors and designers involved.
Your money could pay for:
$10 pays for materials for one shadow puppet
$20 pays for one hour in a rehearsal studio
$50 pays for three hours of audition space
$100 pays for materials for two costumes
$500 goes to scenic designer’s fees
$1000 pays for half of our theater rental
Should I be excited about this?
Yes! Absolutely! We think we’re very exciting!
We are a company firmly committed to high-quality, low cost theatre. We want to provide a lot of bang for your buck. This production will be full of music, magic, comedy, and maybe even some expert juggling (pending casting!). It will definitely be a lot of fun.
I’m not sure I’m convinced. What else can you say to convince me to give you money?
All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. Give yourself a break come tax day!
What if I want to give you a different amount of money? Or want to give you money without getting a perk in exchange?
You can give us any amount of money you wish. And you can opt out of the associated perk (although you're still likely to get a "thank you" from us!) by selecting "contribute now" instead of clicking on one of the offered perks. Did you really think we were going to turn down your money?!
I don’t have money to spare, is there another way I can help?
Money is fantastic but nothing beats word of mouth. Not everyone who is interested in our project has money to contribute – we completely understand that. Want to help in some other way? Get the word out!
