"Here is the last stop for all those who come from somewhere else, for all those who drifted away from the cold and the past and the old ways. Here is where they are trying to find a new life style, trying to find it in the only places they know to look: the movies."- Joan Didion
Eureka! is a short, narrative film about great expectations gone awry and unchecked ambition. The film follows two actresses, whose friendship begins to fray as they drive cross-country towards California in search of new beginnings. When opportunities sour for both girls back east, a rash decision sets in motion a road trip intended to jumpstart their dream lives. Sasha is moving to L.A. where she has a small role in a movie waiting for her, which she expects to enliven her career and finally put her on the path she has mapped out for herself. Frankie is coming along for the ride after a sudden turn of events back home leaves her future plans bleak.
This trip is an opportunity for them to bond again and will be the perfect antidote to their impending adulthood, but the road instead pulls them irreversibly apart. Eureka! combines classic coming-of-age themes with the charming tradition of road movie, all the while keeping the golden goal of California as a taunting driving force throughout.
Let's rewind a bit and tell you how we got here:
Exactly one year ago we sat together at a cramped cafe in Greenwich Village on a Monday morning with an idea for a story that we had been rolling around for months. Four days later, having emptied our savings accounts and rallied all of our friends for help, we were on the set of Secret Garden, our ethereal and experimental first film together. Upon its completion, a new stepping-stone presented itself serendipitously and we leaped at it, stirring up the financing and production with swift, calculated ease. Every Day I Wake Up and Try Not To Die, our second film, was completed in January of this year.
With increased momentum and zeal, we are now taking on a project much bigger in size and scope. Our third film will be a 15-20 minute narrative short set on the West Coast. Not only did we develop the story and co-write the script with previous collaborator, Billy Scafuri, but we will produce, direct, and star in this project as well.
With this unique opportunity come previously uncharted territories and increased costs. As this project will take us to the Wild West, our budget must grow to accommodate the costs of traveling with our crew to our desert location and sustaining them on the road for several days on set. The breadth of this production also presents us with new challenges in sound design and editing, as well as lighting on location, which all make for greater demands on our budget. To see this film to the screen, we need to raise a budget of $10,000.
Where your money is going:

Meryl Williams & Marina Michelson are actors, artists, & friends who met while studying abroad in the magical city of Prague. We joined forces as Meryl & Marina while on a seemingly aimless bike ride in Brooklyn during the late summer of 2009. Frustrated with the lack of forward-thinking roles and material coming our way, we felt empowered by each others individual strengths. We committed to putting our heads together in support of spinning our dreams into realities. Our artistic partnership, like our friendship, is built upon play, collaboration, and ceaseless curiosity. We believe in finding inspiration by looking outward and joining forces with similarly eager creators. Our aim is to help each other make and keep making.
