Burning Man 2014 - Bring Hudzo's new zoetrope to life and to the playa!
Update: New Eternal Return Build Timeline & Announcement for Burning Man 2013
We are eager to share the very latest developments with Eternal Return! This is Peter’s most ambitious stroboscopic zoetrope to date, and it has become clear that it is not possible to realize Peter’s vision with just over four months to go until this year’s burn.
Burning Man has offered us an alternative, they have provided a generous grant to bring back multiple pieces in 2013! This is a great opportunity to catch one of your old favorites or see one you may have missed in years passed. This will enable us to bring Eternal Return to it’s full potential in time for Burning Man 2014. We are very grateful for the additional time to produce this unique, inspiring and complex piece and look forward to having your ongoing support as we continue on our journey
In the meantime, we must remain full-steam ahead on the production of Eternal Return and continue our volunteer and fundraising efforts with great momentum. All donations made to this campaign will still go to the build of Eternal Return. We are working not only to meet, but to surpass our Eternal Return Indiegogo fundraising goal. Your contributions thus far have been crucial and we could not be more grateful for your generous donations, countless volunteer hours and continued support. We are thrilled to be able to provide you with two successive years of phenomenal art in return!
**A couple changes to a few of the rewards:
The face casting can be done anytime between May 1, 2013 and Mid-summer 2014. Since Peter will be bringing zoetropes out to the playa in 2013 and 2014, the camp party package will now include an invite for two to both the 2013 and 2014 events. Ditto for the exclusive preview party. All other rewards remain the same.
Zoetropes are remarkably qualified to portray the cyclical nature of life. A zoetrope is a cylindrical device that produces the illusion of motion from a rapid succession of static pictures. Instead of drawings and shutters, I use sculptures and strobe lights to achieve the same effect.
Earlier works have focused on darker themes, the Sisyphean drudgery of repetitive, never-ending punishment. In contrast, Eternal Return celebrates the joy and ecstasy of life, not just repeated, but begun anew.
The concept of the Eternal Return speculates that the universe has been recurring, and will continue to recur, in a self-similar form, an infinite number of times across infinite time and space. This concept is touched upon in virtually all cultural and religious narratives.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to realize some of my wildest fantasies. And I’d like to have you be part of the next fantasy. Trust me, if you've liked my earlier works, You'll love Eternal Return!
Burning Man has awarded us a very generous grant. However, we still need to raise $40,000 to realize this ambitious design. The creative process begins with the vision of the artist but requires the hands, hearts, and support of a dedicated community to transition from the drawing board to a fully immersive experience. We would be honored if you participated in making this a reality. Your early contributions are essential to the success of Eternal Return.
Thank you very much for your support,
