ESCAPE your boss, ESCAPE your housemates, ESCAPE your parents
The ESCAPsulE chair was designed to provide a comfortable, practicle space to escape noise and have some privacy within any environment.
People yearn for solitary time to disconnect from the world and let their mind wonder, ESCAPsulE provides a private space for that journey. ESCAPsulE combines a retro style beanbag interior, with a Polyethylene exterior. It moulds together material and aesthetic trends from the past and the present to suit all personalities.
Manufacture and the environment
Research has led me to a roto-molded recyclable polyethylene finish as the best option. Polyethlene is environmentally friendly, durable and has a much lower price tag compared to other options such as fiberglass. Very little material is wasted using the process, with excess material being re-usable, making it a very economically and environmentally viable manufacturing process. I will be using an Australian based company who work closely with many established Australian designers on various types of furniture and products .
The only downside is that the production of the moulds is high and that is where you all come in...
The research and development of the ESCAPsulE chair has been evolving since the intital design back in 2004 and with your help I can make the final push to turn it into a reality! All dimensions have been carefully calculated to fit 90% of body types and to endure a comfortable seating experience. At this stage it will only be offered with the beanbag but I have already begaun looking at the possibility of a fully upholsted version.
All funds will go directly towards manufacturing the molds required to produce these unique chairs to be available to everybody. Whatever funding raised will go towards the manufacturing of the ESCAPsulE chair to commence the molds! Although the goal will need to be reached to have any chance of meeting estimate dates.
The chairs will be manufactured in Australia from durable, UV stable and fully recycled polyethylene.
Backing this project is not only beneficial to me but to the whole chain of manufacturing businesses I will be using to see this project through to production.
me - My name is Troy Backhouse, I am a product designer, I have been designing a variety of products since 2004. I have seen various projects through from manufacturing to prototypes and on to production. You can see some of my other products offered as perks above or on my website www.tbacdesign.com
shipping - why is international shipping so expensive
Unfortunately due to the dimensions of the ESCAPsulE chair, international shipping is very expensive! (1100mm x 1000mm x 900mm). Please contact me about international shipping and I will organise the best price I can find, (some countries may be cheaper) but this will need to be paid prior to shipping.
Currently shipping to the UK or USA for the ESCAPsulE is $1600 by air or $800 by sea
I am also happy for you to organise your own shipping if it works out better. If the goal surpasses $25,000 I will kick back some funds into shipping to make it cheaper.
Shipping outside Australia is additional for the Ned Pendant, the Ane stool and the ESCAPsulE chair.
Estimated delivery - these dates are estimates but I expect everything to run smoothly as products will be manufactured locally in Australia and by being local and on deck, we are ready to provide you with well designed, high quality products. I will be posting updates but feel free to contact me with any queries.
benefits - Crowdfunding is a great option for small businesses. Backing this project is not only beneficial to me but to the whole chain of manufacturing businesses I will be using to see this project through to production.
note: all ESCAPsulE images are renderings, technical drawings and sketches.
Thank you for checking out my project, hopefully you will follow the journey and please use the Indiegogo share tools to help spread the word about the ESCAPsulE chair!
