We are trying to create a new education system that is built to ensure young adults actually get jobs without the burden of student loan debt.
We're not your typical educators:
12 months ago, we were working in a NYC tech startup. Despite the fact that we come from completely opposite backgrounds, we both saw a HUGE PROBLEM in higher education. It is a system that keeps producing more and more college graduates who are burdened with debt and yet have no foreseeable job prospects that justify the cost of their tuition nor the skills and experience needed to make them valuable to small businesses with limited capital resources. We think higher education is a valuable investment that can be made more valuable for BOTH the student and their future employer.
SO, we quit our great paying jobs and decided to talk less about the problems and actually work on finding a solution that prepares young adults for the workforce. We've spent months talking to educators to study the effectiveness of learning, and have created a "learn by doing" education model that is built off apprenticeships. Turning to our network, we were able to recruit the top entrepreneurs in NY tech to launch an inaugural class and join as our professors.
Now, we're turning to you. We want to figure out an education model that works for our generation without comprising on the quality of the program. Your support will allow us to do that.
What's the problem:
College isn't working for some people:
- 46% of all students who enroll as freshman NEVER graduate
- Half of all college graduates are unemployed or underemployed
It also is EXPENSIVE:
- Student loan debt just passed 1 TRILLION dollars with the average student responsible for $25,000 of that.
And there are NO OTHER options!
How we're going to fix it:
E[nstitute] is a higher education model where students learn by doing through apprenticeships. We're turning the world's best entrepreneurs into professors and their start-ups and small businesses into classrooms.
We pair top entrepreneurs with apprentices in a two-year, full time experiential learning program. In addition to the apprenticeship, fellows engage in a supplemental online and offline curriculum that consists of competencies and skill development, yearlong outreach initiatives, mentorship programs, and project-based learning opportunities.
Our Entrepreneurs (Professors):
We have a community of the best entrepreneurs in the world. Our entrepreneurs have over 250 years of combined work experience and have raised over 200MM in venture capital. Their combined networks have over 100,000 contacts.
Where your contributions will go:
Securing our E[nstitute] HQ: We are building our first headquarters in New York City. Your support will help us create a home for all our students and a community space for the New York community to teach, learn, and innovate.
Program costs: Contributions will also fund classes, lectures, events, and dinners for our fellows and the public.
Research: We want to do this right and are doing research from day one to figure out what works and what doesn't for our students. Your contributions will support that research and the framework we build to reinvent higher education.
