My name is Chris Deleo. This feature length documentary follows New York City based poet and tarot card reader, Enrique Enriquez. Co-producer Kimmie Naughton and I met Enrique several months ago. What struck us about his approach to the tarot was his poetic style. Enrique is not a fortune teller... you will not find a hint of mysticism or occult thinking here. Instead, you will experience an artist who uses tarot cards to craft beautiful stories.
Enrique is the author of "Looking at the Marseilles Tarot" plus countless essays on the subject. He has lectured around the world and is highly respected within the tarot community for his work with the Jean Dodal and Jean Noblet tarots. Both decks are from the Marseilles tradition, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages. Enrique explains his love for these particular decks and how the Marseilles tarot holds important aesthetic value as well as deeply embedded meaning.
Enrique's approach demystifies tarot cards by placing the images within the context of a poetic experience. He literally describes the images in a spread and how they relate to one another, understanding that those he reads for will place themselves and their concerns within the narrative he creates. It's rare to meet someone as passionate about something as Enrique is
about the tarot. Kimmie and I are honored to be a part of this
The ImpactIn addition to the work we are documenting with Enrique, the film will also explore other reading styles as the filmmakers travel to interview noted experts and authors throughout the tarot community. The result will introduce the public to this often misunderstood craft.
This film is a rare opportunity to witness a deep thinker and a passionate artist. It is also the first of its kind. There has never been a feature film on tarot cards which seeks theatrical release so in this sense you would be helping an original work find its audience
What We Need
This is a work in progress. We are currently filming and production costs are mounting. $2500 of the money raised will go toward film stock, crew and travel expenses. The next $2500 will go toward post-production expenses such as creation of professional DVD's and our extensive film festival campaign.
Every penny counts. Even if we do not reach our goal, funds will be spent wisely on getting Kimmie and me back and forth from Long Island to New York City where the film takes place. We want to film as much as possible in order to create a rich and lasting cinematic experience. Any money raised will help toward this end.
