Hello, my name is Ross Jernigan. I am both the writer and director for “Eden”. When I started writing this project last year, it was a story written to manifest my feelings towards the news of my grandmother’s cancer. At the time, I had no idea that this little heart project of mine would grow into something so much more. As a production designer, stepping out of my box and creating this entire world on my own has been a roller coaster of a ride, and I’m so excited to see where it is going!
While this movie represents my thesis as a senior at the Savannah College of Art and Design, it also stands for so much more than that. My team has helped me to take my passion for understanding loss and heartbreak, and created this stunningly beautiful, visual commentary on the deconstruction of a relationship. As I step out of the safe-haven that is college and into the industry, I hope and dream to take this picture with me. I will be submitting it to festivals and using it to create the foundation of my career.
When it comes down to it, that’s what this is. My heart, and the subtle memories of my grandmother, being molded into something that will help establish my career. Your help will help me establish my career. Your help will help me achieve my dreams. Your help will not only assist not only me, but also every person who believed in this project enough to work on it. You’ll be helping the advancement of my crew in their careers, as well as the continually moving direction of film and art in the industry.
Now, as you can imagine, making films are not free. There are many amenities that are needed in order to make sure everything goes down without a hitch!
As a crew, our financial goal for the film is $2500. While this sounds like a lot, this actually pretty cheap, and covers all of our needs! Summarizing, this money will go to paying our locations (the places we shoot the film), the costumes for our actors and a rental truck to transport all of the equipment. This will go to props, lights, the film we use and rental costs on the equipment. This money will go to craft services (food for feeding our cast and crew on the days of filming), studio time, visual effects and supplies needed to make DVD’s so that we can share the film!
The goal isn’t unreasonable! If we spread the word, we could reach this goal in a matter of days! If we do not reach our budget goal, we will be forced to reduce crew, cut down on costs and overall, compromise the artistic statement of the film.
You may be asking, if I help, what do I get out of this? If I donate, how does that help me? Well, that’s a great question! If you donate $20 or more, you will get a free copy of the DVD! If you donate $100 or more, you’ll get a signed copy of the DVD and script, signed by the two lead actors and myself! as well as a title as “Honorary Donator”, with your name in the credits! If you donate $500 or more, you’ll get each of aforementioned items, as well as behind the scenes photo book of all the events of the filming process! If you donate $1,000 or more, you’ll get each of the above items, as well as a free dinner / Q&A session with myself and the director of photography, Annie Brown! The benefits are yours to gain!
Film tells a story. Each one shows us people, relationships and how their lives change. Yet, through the stories of these people we’ve never met or heard of before, we find ourselves. We cry with them because we value the emotions and understand the struggle. We laugh because we are reminded of our own memories, and relate. That is what I want to accomplish with this film. I want to present a story that makes you remember those you have lost. I want to give you characters that you can relate to. Finally, I want to give you a film that you watch over and over because of the way it makes you feel.
Other Ways You Can Help:
This is where you can really help! Even if you can’t donate, you can spread the word! The greatest form of advertisement of word of mouth, and with today’s continually communication, it’d be easy as pie to let all your friends know! There are plenty of share tools, right here on this page, that makes it easy to share all this information, and my team and myself would be eternally grateful! Thank you so much!
