I am a freelance filmmaker from Romania, a MA student in Image Studies in Bucharest, Romania. Last year I have graduated the “Cinematography, Photography and Media” department of the “Theatre and Television” Faculty in Cluj-Napoca and this crowdfounding is about my graduation film.
I've gained a multicultural academic background by having a double scholarship experience, in South Korea and Turkey. In my second academic year, I was selected for one-year-scholarship in Seoul, South Korea at Dongguk University. After coming back to my homeland, I applied for Erasmus scholarship and studied film for one semester in Turkey. In my 2nd year in university I worked for the local broadcast of The National Television (TVR3), as a reporter for a cultural TV program. Besides the academic background, in the summer of 2011, I was one of the 16th participants of the ARISTOTELES Workshop, where I was the editor of the documentary ”The Japanese Quince Tree”, a multi-awarded film, with an official selection at IDFA 2012 in Amsterdam. In June 2012, I've participated with my graduation film (”As You Like It”) at StoryDOC workshop, in Athens and Leipzig. My film was part of DOKMarket in DOK Leipzig Film Fest and will be part of Cannes Short Film Corner at Cannes Film Festival 2013.
I ended the summer of 2012 in Paris, working at a new film ("Key Encounters"), during a residency program for visual artists offered by Romanian Cultural Institute in Paris. I am also involved in different film-projects and I as a freelancer for a contemporary dance association.
What I Need
My film was selected to be part of Short Film Corner at Cannes Film Fest in 2013. To make this experience worth it, I want to be there to promote and meet people from the film industry and make my film visible for them. Shouldn't a film director with a film selected in Cannes be in Cannes? But travel costs and accommodation are beyond my budget. Therefore, I decided to launch this crowdfunding.
You can be one of those who support a curageous initiavive to fight against the lack of film funding possibilities in Romania and to demonstate that if you really want something, do whatever you can and get it!
Film distribution can be an expensive stage in filmmaking, especially when it comes to student works. As this film doesn't have a production company behind, I have to take care of the distribution strategy. This implies paying submission fees, travel with the film at festival markets, making and printing the postcards, flyers and press kit ... and so on...
As a young, enthusiastic Romanian film director, I need your help to promote my graduation film ("As You Like It") around the world on its successful festival path.
About the film
If you could pick only one photograph of yourself for the next generations to remember you, which one would you choose? “As You Like It” brings together stories from people facing their gravestone picture while still being alive, while the audience discovers the graveyard as a public photo album and living social document.
My dear team: Ioana Lascar, Manuela Borza, Rudolf Costin, Ioana Turcan.
