A CHANCE FOR A BETTER LIFE.
My name is Don Ames, I am a fretworker and I live my life hoping to be a role model and inspiration for others.
I hope to teach others that homelessness is a situation and a not definition of ones’ self. It was not my choice to be homeless, but you can be sure, I am working to do everything in my power to improve my condition of life. I lived in the woods and now I live in a shed, but I continuously striving to better my situation.
But beyond helping myself, I strive to help others. For about a year now I have mentored and taught my friend, Jimmy Edwards the art of wood carving. I have seen Jimmy improve and gain direction in life. In addition to working with Jimmy, I have continuously striven to live a life of sustainability. Even under difficult conditions I recognize the need for us to have a responsibility in treating our world with respect. So in helping me reach my goal of a new scroll saw and two solar panels, I can promise you are helping others because I am committed to paying it forward and giving support to the community and others. This project is to raise $750.00 to buy an industrial scroll saw and 2 solar panels. These purchases will improve my condition of life. I can spend less time worrying about something breaking or fixing a part and more time concentrated on creating art. I envision my art being in art galleries and other venues, but this dream is not possible without this new equipment. With the new solar panels I will no longer fear running out energy, but will be able to make my art and live a healthier life. I am excited for this opportunity and really appreciate everyone who endorses and supports me. Know that you are investing in a life changing and environmentally sustainable project. To show my appreciation I will be giving contributors pieces of my woodwork as gifts.
$15 – Bird House
$30 – Napkin Holder
$50 – House Placket
$75 – Puzzle Clock
$125– wooden basket
If in the end I do not reach my goal of 750, I will save from odd jobs until I am able to make up the difference. The Artifacts cooperative will hold the money in an account for me until I can reach the full goal.
If you can’t donate at this time please help spread the word and get connected with Don through Artifacts’ website and facebook page. Also, if you are interested in learning more about the IRC, check out their website and facebook.
