For those of you who have already been listening via my website , my soundcloud or on my facebook you will already know that for the last 3 years I have been working very hard on my first solo Album entitled Craig Scott's Lobotomy's 'War is a Racket'.
I feel that this Album is the culmination of everything I have learned during my many years as a professional musician, taking influence from the vast range of diverse projects I have previously been involved with and distilling them into - hopefully, with your support - 12" of Waxy gold!
The album itself, totalling 45 mins in length, has already been completed mixed and mastered ready for release. All I need now is your investment in order to physically manifest the album in the form of 12" records and CD's.
I'm also very excited to announce that exclusively as part of this fund raising campaign I'm offering the album in a GROUND BREAKING NEW FORMAT! The album will be available exclusively to YOU as a handmade Pink Latex Brain so you can perform a home Lobotomy in order to access the Download Code hidden within. Here are some of the other Items that are available:
Art for art's sake, Money for god's sake
As I started to realise that the music INDUSTRY does not sell music but sells idols, culture and fashion, I thought it would be a good idea to cut to the chase and create 'THE CHURCH OF CRAIG SCOTT'. As part of this campaign I will be awarding individuals with official titles in the church (and like all good cults) dependant on how much money is pledged. They are as follows ...
I will be releasing teasers of each track from the album over the next couple of weeks - to HEAR them please enter your name and email address to subscribe below
I've spent a considerable amount of time trying to sell my soul to the devil in order to get a record deal and guess what? ... It turns out the devil's projected profits are suffering pretty badly these days due to Spotify's embarrassing payment plan and people torrenting and sharing music for free on the internet, not to mention his overheads skyrocketing as oil and gas prices are constantly on the rise (takes a lot to keep those fires burning for eternity!)
But, in all seriousness, the reason I have chosen to use this platform to raise funds to release my album is because it allows the listener/fan to ultimately decide the fate of the record. If enough people are passionate about the music I have to offer to fund the physical pressing of the albums then the album in physical form will go ahead.
Although it doesn't seem like a huge amount of money that is needed, I cannot afford to do it on my own. I have already got to the point where the record is mixed and mastered, I just need YOUR HELP(!) to manufacture the finished product. I have set the campaign target at the minimum amount needed in order to have 300 12" records and 300 CDs pressed.
If, together, we can go beyond the target set, any extra funds will be used to promote the album, get the 12" pressed in hot pink! (or some other garish colour) and be re-invested in the next album. All proceeds from the sale of the remaining albums will also be re-invested in future releases. I am not looking to make a personal profit. For this venture my only aim is get the album pressed in physical format and have the resources to be able to share this music with a wider audience. My personal reward will be, after 3 long years, holding the 12" in my hands!
In the case of me not reaching the target and not raising enough to press the vinyl records and CDs, I will reimburse everyone with their money and those who chose one will still receive their home lobotomy brain.
For anyone who is new to all this, I will now try to impress you with a list of things I have done ...
Craig Scott’s Lobotomy is the latest musical adventure to seep out of the fertile Leeds (UK) music scene where experimental jazz rubs shoulders with Electronica and DIY alternative rock. As the self-proclaimed creator and leading exponent of the ‘medio-core’ genre, the music of Craig Scott’s Lobotomy is a bubbling cauldron of conventional and experimental sounds. Live improvisations are pulled apart, transformed by crudely homemade noise producing/altering paraphernalia and then intricately reconstructed with digital audio software. The result is a Frankenstein’s monster scaling the ‘uncanny valley’ ... part human, part machine and revelling the glory and error of both.
I have previously performed with a diverse range of musicians including Baba Adasose Wallace, Tom Arthurs, Matthew Borne, John Potter (Hilliard Ensemble), Chris Sharkey (Trio VD), Ball-Zee (UK Beatbox Champion), Jean Tousaint (Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers) and Ruby Wood (Submotion Orchestra, Bonobo).
I have been working as an independent musician for my whole career - and the majority of my life. My musical journey has led me to be involved in over 15 independent releases, working with a diverse range of very talented musicians, recording live sessions for the BBC, touring across the UK and Europe, having interviews on BBC radio , being misquoted in the Guardian newspaper as well as reviews in the rest of the UK music press.
With zero budget, no label support but with the support of some very kind, patient and talented friends, the Album is finally finished! I would like to thank Tim Thomas, Oliver Dover, George Whalley, Richard Ormrod, Johnny Richards and everyone else who contributed to the making of this album.
Thanks for taking the time to read all this and I hope you enjoy the music!
Thank You and Goodnight
