What's this about?
DICE (Durham Indie Comics Expo) is a FREE local show in Durham, NC on Nov. 8 (7-9pm gallery show) and Nov 9 (11-7 festival/presentations/panels) meant to support local cartoonists and other independent artists. Our goal is to put on a full day of panels, presentations, merch and fun, plus a full-on gallery show featuring the best of local talent! My name is Eric Knisley. I've been making cartoons and comics my whole life--it's basically all I'm good at.
DICE will be Nov 8 (pm) and 9 (all day) at SUPERGRAPHIC, 601 Ramseur St., Durham, NC (map).
This campaign will allow me and my partners Rob Clough and Bill Fick to realize a long-standing dream: a local indie show. Your contributions will help us realize that dream, but not just for the three of us; we're hoping to provide a forum for the Research Triangle's burgeoning arts community to meet and greet, to network, to learn.
We're asking for funding, because we want to make this show free and open to all.
Here's how we'll use the money we raise
1. Pay for publicity and materials costs. This will include the paper we print our posters on, hardware to hang art for the gallery show, and printing costs.
2. Pay for lodging and travel costs for some of our guests.
3. Pay for all the necessary incidentals that add up--wine for the gallery show, name badges for the festival, rented AV equipment for presentations and so on.
We've got some great perks to reward your for helping us, too! We're offering original art, comics by local art heroes, limited-edition posters and more! We're working on getting tee shirts as a premium reward--watch this space.
If we don't make our full goal, we'll use the funds we do receive to pay for as much of the show as possible, and work on a plan for next year's show. Because this is just the first of many DICE shows, that we're sure of!
We deeply appreciate whatever you can donate, but if you can't, please help us by spreading the word. We want this thing well-attended, so tell your pals about it, and look for us on FaceBook, Twitter and everywhere else we can think of. Thank you very much!
