Diana's Transgender Surgery Fundraiser!
My name is Diana Tourjee. I am a 24 year old transgender woman, writer, and student living in New York City. This campaign has been established to fund my Gender Confirmation Surgery, specifically vaginoplasty.
Unfortunately my insurance agency has not evolved to acknowledge the real medical necessity of transgender care. They have denied to cover the cost of my surgery on the grounds that is a cosmetic procedure. It is heart breaking that medical care isn't where it needs to be for so many people, across so many demographics, but I understand the reality of the situation.
Thats where you come in. I need help from my community, and it is with great humility that I ask for that help.I am blessed to be able to make this campaign. By contributing to this fundraiser you will be helping a me finally be in body what I am in my heart, and you will be providing access to necessary medical care that is otherwise inaccessible to me. If you are able to contribute, please know that your action will directly change my life, and that I am using my life to produce and foster love in my community.
I am a sober alcoholic. I found sobriety two years ago, and I started taking personal responsibility for my life. Living by an ethic of honesty, acceptance, and gratitude, has enabled me to be a whole person and to finally stop trusting fear to dominate me. I should not be alive today, but I am, and I am going to help other people who suffered as I did.
In the Summer of 2012 I established a website called Third Sex, located at www.thirdsex.org The purpose of this website is to provide a place for divergent genders to be illuminated, wash away shame, and to help establish relevant archetypes to transgender youth that are desperately needed. There is a heart breaking social assumption that transgender people are dangerous role models for children. Unfortunately, this sort of erasure ethic assures that transgender kids will never see themselves on television, in a book, at school, or anywhere but the tabloids of a culture that fears them. It also means that gender variance itself endures as a shameful divergence from normative culture.
Anyone and everyone would benefit from less stringent assumptions about gender, whether you're trans or otherwise.I want to help new archetypes to form, and I want to give every kid who thinks they're unacceptable the chance to believe they might be beautiful, and worthy of being loved.
I work at Beacon's Closet, which is an independant business (three buy-sell-trade thrift stores) in New York City owned and operated by women. I have worked for them for the past three years, and they have always established a safe environment for their employees, and provided a living wage and health insurance to those employees. I consider it an honor to work for them, and when I started my transition I was received by my employers in full support.
Beacon's Closet has agreed to assist me with my campaign, and have contributed Gift Cards that I have included as incentives to any donation made. Thank you Beacon's Closet, for being such a leader in our community, and for loving me as much as I love you! Beacon's has a long history of working with charity organizations, donating clothing, and raising money for important causes. Thank you.
Kingsland Printing has also donated their services to my campaign, and have contributed bags and shirts with custom screen printed designs just for this fundraiser. Thank you Kingsland Printing!
Thank you for taking the time to read this!! If you choose to contribute, that is amazing, but if you can not and would like to help, please share this with a friend or help spread the word about my campaign. I hope that you were able to identify with something I said, and that you can take something positive out of my message to affect your life or the lives of the people around you. I believe whole heartedly in community, and from the bottom of my heart - I hope you have a beautiful day.
