Dew maps ideas. Share good ideas for progress in your city and collaborate to make them reality. makedew.com
Dew maps ideas and grows neighborhood movements. Our goal is simple: to help communities envision and implement change. We are building a place-based social innovation tool that uses maps to gather ideas for projects in your neighborhood or city, and help good ideas become reality by collaborating with others in your community.
think : map : do. Dew.
You can use Dew to connect online ideas with on-the-ground action—to gather voices together virtually, develop and strengthen your idea, access the knowledge of the crowd, and build support to help your project become realized in your own backyard. We believe that by mapping out possibilities and tapping the power of collaboration to catalyze place-based change, communities can build movements of civic energy that will promote economic and social vibrancy.
Our progress so far
Right now, Dew is in a soft beta release, but we are currently busy building a new application to be released in January 2013. When we launched our prototype in early 2012 (makedew.com), Dew was the first and only website for place-based ideas to deploy a map.
But our research and thinking goes much farther back, and our prototype application isn't the only progress we've made at Dew. It's been a long road, but in the two years since we planned out the strategy that would get us here, we've built a coalition of partners and allies that will help Dew occupy a distinctive place in the social arena. Building conduits into actual communities is for us is as essential as building the Dew app, and we are ready to spring up from the ground in cities around the country.

What we're fundraising for
Our campaign is to raise funds to transform our prototype app into a fully interactive social innovation tool. To do that, we are building a robust array of access, idea development, and collaboration tools to enhance user experience and connect online ideas to offline action. This includes:
- user interactivty and communication tools
- social networking and mobile connectivity
- online collaboration and participation venue to develop ideas and build community
- multi-media support
- custom mapping and campaign hosting
- community outreach and pilot projects to demonstrate Dew's capability
- bitchin graphics and visually progressive UI/UX development
- engagement with social innovation movements around the world
We want to grow Dew using the practices that we preach, and we are relying on mass participation to bring Dew to cities around the country. In return for your support, we’re offering a series of perks outlined on this page. No matter what your contribution, you will always be recognized as a Contributor in the Dew online community. As our site grows and we’re able to offer new features and capability, your role as a Contributor will have new benefits, including access to the Dew development forum, an online exchange of ideas for how Dew can be more relevant to more people.
The impact of your support
Dew's mission is really simple: to foster social change through place-based innovation. We want all people to be a part of the process of community development, and we're building a tool to empower all people to imagine and shape the future of their neighborhoods. We believe that the impact will strengthen relationships between each other and the world around us. In the long run, your support will be measured by everyday people using Dew to connect with each other, share aspirations, and manifest possibility.
But there's a lot your support will make happen right away, and it comes down to four big things:
- continue web and mobile development: we can continue development of an unprecedented, maps-based social innovation tool, the only of its kind on the web. Non-profits, community organizations, and other institutions, we can immediately launch projects for real action.
- build the Dew community: whether you donate financially or simply sign up and start participating on Dew, you will help build critical mass.
- immediate civic engagement: Dew is shovel-ready for ideas of any size and type: a new business, an art installation, a dance party, a place to host your band, or clearing an empty lot.
- building a brand and adding value: as Dew unrolls new features, we will be working to build our presence in the social innovation community, expose our brand online, and have the tools to build partnerships with organizations.
The impact of your support: communities with collective aspirations for the future.

Who we are
Dew’s creators are located in some of America’s most interesting laboratories for social innovation—Detroit, Washington, and New Orleans—where we are designers, strategists, programmers, thinkers, and idealists. We endeavor to create paths to vibrancy based on social good, collaboration, and multi-disciplinary work.
Dew is an open workshop, and this project has been built up by the collaboration and partnership of some of our closest friends and colleagues. If you too would like to pitch in, write us, and we'll write back!
