Thanks for checking out our project. We're so glad you stopped by!
Television is Broken. Together we can fix it.
Our options for television leave something to be desired these days. Either we can subscribe to expensive packages containing hundreds of channels (most of which we never watch) or we can subscribe to economical internet services that often don’t have those one or two shows we really want.
Handcrafted Television, Served One Channel At A Time
Deluxis is creating a place where you can subscribe to individual television channels. If you're like us, and most people we've talked to, you only watch about five channels. You should be able to subscribe to just those.
We designed and built a prototype. Now we need your help to make the site more robust, polished, and scaled. We can't do it without you!
Channels You Love, and New Favorites
We are working diligently to bring you all the great shows you know and love. Many of the biggest names in television have expressed keen interest in Deluxis. Stay tuned: we will bring you more details on that soon. We are also working with some very talented people to bring you exciting new channels never seen before.
Prime Time + On Demand
Sometimes you just want to kick back and watch TV. That's why channels on Deluxis will feature a block of prime time programming you can simply turn on and enjoy. Each channel will also feature an extensive catalog of on-demand shows for when you know exactly what you want to watch.
Save Money, Only Buy What You Watch
Most people watch about five channels. Our goal is to price channels between $2 and $10 per month with the average package costing about $40 per month. Compare this to the average traditional mega-package television bill, which is currently $72 per month.
Show The World We Demand Better Television
This idea is a long time coming. We're very encouraged by the support we've already received among our friends and family. Please help show your support by contributing to the campaign! Together we can make this happen!
Building a project of this magnitude isn't an easy task. Our team is up to the challenge. We have experience working on large scale entertainment projects, bringing together people and resources to achieve amazing results.
Christopher Kaminski, the founder of Deluxis, worked as a video game producer at Sega. His most recent title, MadWorld for the Wii, was the cover story of the 20th Anniversary issue of Nintendo Power and received praise from many game critics.
The rest of the team is even more amazing: Keane Li shaped the marketing and community relations. Jonathon Newby crafted the most recent look for the website that you see in the screenshots and video. Mark Wilbur, recently back from nearly a decade working abroad, has helped create the Ruby on Rails framework.
Trent Temple, who did our original designs and created the logo, is also the art director at Juxtapoz Magazine. Marc Granirer, the Executive in Charge of Production for all six seasons of Nash Bridges, has brought incredible knowledge of the inner workings of television and Hollywood to the business.
We were mentored by Angus Durocher (former head of web development at YouTube/Google), Greg Fulcher (co-founder of WheelsTV), and Jim Buckley (Corporate VP of Finance of Motorola Mobility/Google). These are just some of the astounding people who have collaborated with us so far.
The most important element in making this happen, however, is you. If you've read this far, the idea of creating a better method of television must strike a chord. This project will take considerable effort, and we're committed to seeing it through.
Thank you from all of us at Deluxis!
When will you launch?
We will launch into beta by June of 2013 (Q2). That will provide enough time to continue our engineering efforts and conclude business deals with the initial content owners.
What channels will you have at launch?
It's a little early to announce our launch lineup. We will have a dozen channels ready to go for the beta, and more than 40 by the time we open to the public.
How long will the beta period be?
The beta period will be at least one month, and will very likely go longer. We will need enough time to work out the major kinks.
Is this legal?
Yes. We are working directly with content owners to secure the necessary licensing and legal agreements to make this project a reality.
People say a la carte won't work. How will you be successful?
We've heard that too. We believe the time has come for a la carte television.
In the days of analog cable, selling individual channels was challenging for a variety of technical reasons. Recent digital technologies, from set-top boxes to the internet, readily solved these limiting issues.
More recently the biggest challenge that impedes this idea is inertia. Big content packages are "how we've always done things." But it doesn't have to continue to be this way.
We will be successful by using a common sense approach. Our committment is to dramatically improve the quality of the television experience to you, the customer.
Where does the money go?
Great question! Our current goal allows us to continue building the web application and supporting infrastructure. We performed a detailed analysis of the cost, time and materials required to get us to the next milestone. Here's a breakdown of where the money will be spent.
What happens if you exceed your goal?
If we exceed our goals, we will commit resources to developing native applications for internet-connected devices, game consoles, and televisions prior to beta.
What happens if you don't make your goal?
We are firmly committed to making a la carte television a reality. If we don't achieve our fundraising goals through this campaign, we will explore alternative means of securing the resources needed to launch Deluxis.
Why did you choose a "Flexible Funding" campaign?
We chose a flexible funding campaign with you in mind. A fixed funding campaign will only allow you to contribute via PayPal. A flexible funding campaign allows you to contributed directly via your credit/debit card or through PayPal. Deluxis is all about giving you the most options with the greatest convenience.
