The Small Small Story
The idea for Small Small came about during my trip to Africa in 2012 working with the US Government. Despite being in some of the most food insecure countries in the world, the region maintains a vibrant cuisine that can’t be found anywhere else. With this in mind, I set out to create a new kind of social enterprise bringing delicious products sourced from the developing world to socially conscious, adventurous eaters in the US. Furthermore, a portion of each sale is donated to an organization that teaches modern agriculture in the source region.
The name “Small Small” resulted from the same trip to Liberia, where locals have an idiom of instead of saying “a little” they say “small small.” For instance, instead of saying, “use a little sauce” they will say, “use the sauce small small.” The phrase conveys the concept that everyone is making a small change with each purchase.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and we hope that you'll enjoy some of our Small Small products!
Small Small Reward
By funding Small Small you're helping to launch the first high-end ethical spice and sauce brand in the world. With our initial sales and capital we will be able to build a donation pool for our partner NGOs working in Africa and prove that brands in the food industry can do well by doing good. With your help we can start the movement and build a sustainable future for Ethiopian agriculture.
For those who donate, we're prepared tiers of rewards which include Small Small's signature spice blend sourced directly from Ethiopia as well as the Small Small red pepper sauce inspired by Ethiopia's famous awaze.
Make a Small Small Change
Core to Small Small's mission is making a sustainable change through innovative development. We have several prospecitve partnerships with NGOs on the ground with a proven track record of success in Ethiopian agriculture. After meeting with officials within the US and Ethiopian Government, the following organizations are among those who we hope to partner with: Self Help Africa, Food First, and ACDI/VOCA.
