As some of you may have heard, the latest update is that Dain was attacked in his apartment yesterday afternoon by a stranger who broke in, so if you can help spread the word that anything raised above our goal here will go to new medical/dental expenses, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
WHAT HAPPENED TO DAIN?
All kidding aside, Dain Mergenthaler, a young textile artist, new to the city, has been working hard to get himself set up only to find himself unable to walk after being hit by a car whilst riding his bike home one night. Now he is trying to balance recuperating and staying afloat. He has no insurance and some of us are working to help him figure out all of the daunting paperwork. He won't be able to go to his jobs for a while, until his broken leg and head injuries recover significantly. Help him with rent for a couple months while he tries to get his life back in order. New Yorkers, especially, let's not let this city conquer one of the good ones.
WHAT DOES HE NEED & WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Here's how it break downs:
- Dain's rent is $600/month and he should be back up and running in a couple of months ($1200 total).
- He also lost his glasses in the accident and has been wearing his sister's which are the wrong prescription (so, let's say $100 to get an eye exam and $50 to buy glasses online).
- Cat food and other needs for beloved Miss Cleo ($50).
- And the remaining is so he can visit NYU Dental School to begin to address some tooth/gum issues he sustained as well (this $500 is unrealistic probably, but it's a start, and anything raised over the goal amount will go towards this).
There are so many causes (and many of us work for some of them) and we wanted to keep this ask realistic. Dain's just encountered a spell of bad luck and this would literally help him get back on his feet. $5 or $10 from all of us who know Dain personally or can easily visualize the reality that he is going through can truly make a difference.
Times are tough and not everyone can give. But hey, circulate this message to people you know who might be able to give; that is a donation as well!
Dain will reward bigger gifts with something handcrafted for you.
