Kaiden is a bright, beautiful 11 year old boy. He loves to draw and sketch, (quite the artist), is an avid reader, (like college level?), runs cross country, and is a big brother to Ava 9 & Ashton 7! Kaiden is a gentle loving spirit, who is wise beyond his years. He has a vivid imagination, and dreams of making movies someday!
Recently, Kaiden started having blurry vision. Being the kind of child who doesn't complain, his mom noticed him reading with one eye closed. No one would've imagined what would be the cause.
Kaiden's mom made a doctor appointment for Oct. 11th. Kaiden's dad took him, and the doctor told him to take Kaiden to Children's Hospital... so he did. Kaiden looked fine, he felt just fine- so his dad waited for the MRI results, so they could go home and join the family for dinner that evening.
Two words turned their lives upside down: brain cancer. The doctor spoke the words a parent never dreams of hearing "your son has a brain tumor". Kaiden was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer: non-germinoma germ cell tumor. So the healing journey for Kaiden began.
Kaiden's mom immediately began a healing, anti-cancer diet of a vegan diet and juicing. They called at least one hundred clinics and doctors, looking for answers. They began holistic therapies, addressing mind~body~spirit. They pulled out the stops for their son.
On Monday Oct. 22nd, Kaiden had emergency surgery, to put a tube in his brain, to allow the cerebral fluid to drain. Fluid was pooling, due to the mass blocking it's flow to the spinal cord. He did awesome!
Now, greatest chance for survival for Kaiden, is chemotherapy for 6 months, followed by radiation. A brain tumor is inherently dangerous, and Kaiden's is in an especially difficult spot, so it is inoperable. What a difficult road ahead for this sweet child, and his family.
This is just the beginning of what will be a long healing journey for Kaiden, and the battle of his and his familie's lives.
The Schmidt family will need assistance, as we all know cancer treatments are costly, and can put a huge financial burden on the family. Kaiden's parents have already missed weeks of work, and this is just the beginning.
Monies donated will be utilized towards Kaiden's treaments, complementary therapies to help mitigate side affects, and to help the families financial burdens.
By donating you will release some of the stress of the financial burden the Schmidt family will endure. Donating will allow his mom and dad, to spend time at their son's side... exactly what a child needs during his healing: his mom and dad!
