Our Story

If you watched the video then you more or less know what we want to do and you can skip few lines. If you didn't then let's start from the beginning.

This is our IndieGoGo fundraising campaign for a documentary series called "Crossing the Limits" - a story of riders and crew members of 2012 PWA windsurfing world cup traveling, competing and fighting for the 2012 world title.

I'm Jakub Kosmowski and I'm the producer of these series. I was competing on the PWA world tour since 2004. In 2006 I've already started to move more toward working in my own video production studio where we produced high quality animations, motion graphics and film. Last year I decided I will quit my windsurfing career and concentrate on producing a high quality documentary series about behind the scenes life of PWA world tour and to show you guys what I have seen over the 6 years when competing with all of the top rider in the world.

We are settled together with the PWA - professional windsurfing association to make it happen. They will allow us to every location on each of the PWA event to bring you guys the action from  all possible angles around the competition, even from the judges tower.

And now comes the big one. The project will be supported by Two times Emmy award winner Steve Weiss from Zacuto.com. Steve produced great series called Film Fellas and Great Camera Shootout both can be seen on their website Zacuto.com. Steve will be helping us with the final look of the series and will give us his most valuable support - his experience and knowledge. We are very excited to have Steve on our side.

The Impact

It will be about hard work and emotions. Each event will be a separate episode which will be around 25 minutes. We will release each episode one month after the event. We will concentrate on traveling, emotions, hard work and everything behind an organization of PWA event and three disciplines: slalom, freestyle and wave. So take a look at those few pictures:

They look nice. This is what you see after each event. Complete moves, rider racing across the finish line and celebrating their victory. What the media give you is a finished product. But how many times you asked yourself how all of this was made and how the guys do it. We will cover everything what Leeds to the finished product. There is no need to show another video with highlights. We will show you what is behind all of these nice pictures, videos etc.

So we will show you something like that:

This is real windsurfing. Competing on a world cup can be frustrating, exhausting and a hard work that's why we want to t show that and we want to give the credit to the riders and the crew.

What We Need & What You Get

And also YOU can be a part of it. We gathered budget for all of our gear, cameras but now we need to fund traveling cost and crew. That's why we need your help. If you are willing to support our project remember that every dollar counts and remember that behind any backing level there is a reward. So in order to support the project you need to follow few easy steps. Please watch the video where I show how to back our project.

Our goal is 90 000 USD and comparing this to a budget of a high quality documentary movie it's nowhere near the standards for 12 episodes. Each episode of our series will be around 25 minutes. For now we know we will go to 12 event. It all depends on the calendar. It may be more it may be few less. But when you look at it, it is 6 hour long movie from the PWA World Cup 2012 plus a lot more in making of.

This campaign is a "keep what you receive" so if we will not meet our final goal we will still do the project it's just the matter of how many events. For us it's around 5000 USD to travel to one location with all our gear that's why these will be our milestones for that project.

5000 USD - one episode

10000 USD - two episodes

and so on.

Of course if we raise for example 15 000 USD we will do everything to gather the budget for the rest of the events from an outside financig source.

Now on the other hand what will happen if there will be less events? Well the risk is on us. Mainly because it may happen that there will be more than 12 events if that happens then we will still make all of the episodes. If there will be less events then we will spend all of the extra funds for additional content and crew to make the series even better.

Few important finical facts I need to point out:

- The finished documentary will be for free on the web. So no extra payments after the documentary is done.

- Our minimum budget is 5000$ so if we don't meet that goal by the 7th of March and decide we can't make the documentary then we will return all payments.

- All of the support goes towards production and not towards living costs of the crew.

- If you would like to get something which is not listed on the rights side send us an email and we can see what we can do for you.

We want to make the series attractive to as many people as possible but few groups specifically:

-windsurfers as this will be produced around the world cup.

-animation and motion graphics artists as we will share our process of making intros, animations, lower thirds and posters

-directors and dslr users as we will share our workflow on working with digital slr's and other cameras in a movie environment

-travel and documentary enthusiasts as we will be traveling a LOT!

So if you are one of this group consider donating for our project and get access to a lot of resources throughout the whole process of production.

We know that nothing is for free that's why for each contribution you will get a personal gift all the way from live stream access to making of the documentary to you or your company promoted throughout the whole series as a sponsor.
