Hello everyone! I am starting this campaign for my mom Corky. Who is Corky? She is my mom, a widow and most of all a Breast cancer Survivor. I want to give her a Christmas present of a lifetime but I need your help please!
12 years ago she lost my father to esophageal cancer. Once he was diagnosed he past 9 months later.
My father was a great man, he served in the Air force for 8 years, and he practiced his passion for dentistry. My father was a graduate of Case Western School of Dentistry. My parents would have been married for 48 years this November 21st.
Throughout these past 12 years though, my mom has lost her house, her car, her family, herself esteem, her friends.
Becoming a widow was something she never imagined at the age of 55. She lost her best friend, the man she planned to empty nest with. She has never been the same since.
Corky battled breast cancer, which is now in remission, then had a knee transplant that went horribly wrong and is permanently disabled now and hasn't been able to work. Just a few years back she was diagnosed with a double ventricle hernia, the surgery nearly killed her. Recovery was over a month stay in the hospital. To say the least my mother has endured medical nightmares while still healing from my father’s death. Medical bills destroyed her credit.
However the night before my father past I promised him I would always look after my mother. I kept my promise so far but falling a little short this year.
Life loves throwing us lemons these past 5 years for the two of us. We were homeless at times living in the car, had no food, and absolutely no one turn too.
We always made the most of it even when we thought we weren't going to survive another day of misery.
In the process though trying to rebuild what you have lost is extremely difficult, when you are one person. I had to take off time from school just because life became too chaotic.
With me trying to be superman, taking care of my mom working full time and trying to build my own life. After 12 years though of caring for my mother, I forgot about myself and can't care for her like I once use too. I want to finish college finally and focus on me for a little while.
This Christmas I want to move my mom to a senior community I found in Orange city Florida. It was always her dream to retire in Florida with my father.
So I want to give her that this year. It is right in her budget, they offer breakfast every single day, transportation and has a calendar full of activities for the residents.
There won't be a day where she is board.
I want her to be around people her own age, make new friends and live the rest of her year's she has left to the absolute fullest she possibly can.
Right now she only has a bed so her being able to sit on a couch and being able to watch television which she certainly misses would put a smile on her face as big as the grand canyon.
Most of all, I would like to fill up her kitchen cabinets and refrigerator, with food exploding out of them. It has been a very long time since she has cabinets full of food. She just loves to eat.
I will donate one toy, per donation to my campaign to the Golisano’s Children Hospital here in Rochester, NY.
I have set up a P.O box 22664, Rochester, NY 14692.
Any gift cards to Wegmans, Tops, Aldi’s, and Wal-Mart would be greatly appreciated.
Any donation is never too small and if you are not able to contribute anything than thank you so much for taking the time out to read about my Campaign.
Thank You so much and everyone have a great holiday.
Let's Move Corky to Orange City, Florida!
