About the Project
“Committed” is a road-trip movie set on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. It will be shot in English but it will have the unmistakable flavour of Cyprus. The story is a romantic comedy about a man who takes to the road to escape the pressure of proposing to his girlfriend, only to come across a bride who has just run out on her wedding.
What ensues is a bizarre road trip which explores ideas about love, marriage and commitment, with a big surprise ending. It’s “When Harry Met Sally” on the road with a twist.
We plan to shoot the film over 3 weeks in May 2013 in Cyprus.
What is unique about this film is that it has been designed to be made on a super-low budget. The reason for this is that recently many of the local film funds that we depend on have been cut. So a group of dedicated filmmakers have gotten together and decided to try to make this happen independently.
You can see some of their profiles below.
With Cyprus being one of the cheapest shooting destinations in Europe and the unwavering support of local crew and production companies, this kind of project is completely possible, proving that you don’t need millions to tell a good story...or to kickstart the local film industry!
What We Need & What You Get
There is a small group of very talented filmmakers that live in Cyprus and despite the lack of work, they still love what they do and they do it well. This project is an attempt to create work for ourselves and to keep our industry going.
To make this film happen, our crew has agreed to work for lowered rates, and local production companies have generously offered equipment, facilities and services at very low prices or even for free. But we will still have the day-to-day expenses of producing a film, like:
- crew and cast fees
- equipment rental
- post production
Considering what it normally costs to make a feature film, this is a very resourceful figure. Also, rest assured that we are a team of professionals with excellent facilities so that the artistic and technical quality of the film will remain high.
By contributing to this campaign:
- you're actively taking part in making a movie
- you'll receive some terrific perks, so it's not just a donation
- MOST IMPORTANTLY you're providing people with work and you're supporting a developing film industry
Also, because this is a road trip movie, we will be showcasing some of the island's most interesting locations, so you'll be exposing and promoting Cyprus to the world and who knows what kind of business that could attract back into the country!
How can I help?
By donating today! Just click on the amount you wish to donate (and the perk you'd like to receive) and in a couple of minutes you've brought us closer to our goal and made a huge difference to us!
If you can't donate, then please help us promote this campaign! Share it with your family and friends, post it on your facebook page, tweet, text, shout and get the word out!
