Why we need your help...
We're making a fun movie on a tiny budget.
Come and Get Your Love is a narrative feature film set in New York City, that we (Raul Barcelona and Josh Robbins) are co-directing in August from Josh's original screenplay.
We've taught filmmaking for years, won many awards, made feature-length documentaries (Raul), and written feature-length scripts (Josh), but neither of us has made a feature-length narrative film, and that's what we're doing this summer.
We love this story, and we're thrilled to work with talented and passionate filmmakers like our DP Jordan Stone, our casting director and producer Heidi Eklund, and our executive producer Diane Becker, but we need your help.
Josh wrote Come and Get Your Love with the intention of shooting it on a micro budget, and that's what we're doing, but even at the micro-budget level, we need your support to get through production and here's why...
We're paying people.
One of the themes of Come and Get Your Love is personal liberation. It's so difficult for young people to stay out of debt or to keep their heads above water once they're in debt, and nothing crushes your freedom like money troubles.
So we're paying our amazing cast and crew (many of whom are on the young side) for their time and work.
We're paying for equipment and locations, food, etc.
Yeah, that stuff costs money, too. Even though the main location of the film is the city at night, we have some interior locations, and we have some equipment needs.
And even on our tiny budget, we're doing this right, which means there are the legal fees, insurance...all that boring stuff.
Plus, we're feeding everyone the yummiest and healthiest food we can get!
So everything that's donated through Indiegogo will go into making this production as smooth and professional and fun as the story deserves it to be.
We're offering great perks.
We're offering mugs, DVDs, signed scripts, original art, party passes, private screenings, movie credits, and more!
And if you think of a cool perk for us to offer, let us know, and we'll try to add it to the list.
We will stay in close touch with our supporters throughout the process and we'll be responsive to your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. We want to hear from you!
We're making the movie no matter what.
We will go into production in August with whatever resources we have, but we would love to reach our Indiegogo goal. So whatever you can give will definitely go toward making the movie.
We're making an important movie.
As professors, we see so many people who feel trapped by debt at too young an age. So while this movie is certainly positive and fun and about love and friendship and all that, we also feel that the story focuses on something truly important - the struggle for freedom that we all witness in so many post-college-aged people.
Help us make a movie that explores this important theme - one that we don't see handled in a nuanced way in other movies!
We need your help even if you can't give money.
We know how tough it is right now for some people, and you can help us even if you don't have fifteen dollars to spare. Believe us, we've been there (we're still there sometimes).
You can help us by spreading the word, liking us on Facebook, sending our Indiegogo link to everyone you can think of!
And please take a moment to use the Indiegogo share tools.
Those of you who are ass-out (to use an old-school expression), we appreciate your help as much as those of you who can squeeze some money from a stone for us.
We'll take whatever you can give us and we'll deliver a fun, poignant, beautiful film.
That's our promise!
Thanks for reading and thanks so much for your support!
