WHO WE ARE
COLAB Las Vegas is a non-profit organization located in the Arts District in downtown Las Vegas. We collaborate with local architects, artists, designers and city officials on grass-root concepts and projects which positively impact our community. We are creating a working gallery environment that elevates design while creating opportunity for professional growth, a platform for dialogue and community connectivity. Our goal and passion is to be hands on in the design and development of our city. This is why we created COLAB. There is no better group of people to be integrated into local design projects than the locals who know Las Vegas best. Here is one example of how we have already begun to make an impact in our community.
OUR IMPACT SO FAR
Our first curated exhibit launched May 24th, 2012 and showcased seven young designers in the field of architecture. The exhibit explored conceptual and built work that each designer had been lead on or an integral part of the project team. After the exhibit opening, COLAB was approached by the City of Las Vegas Cultural Affairs Department to put together a design team for this revolutionary new public art project. In the spirit of continuing to promote these young designers, COLAB commissioned all seven of them plus an additional local artist to make up the design team for the Neon Gateway Project. With the commission fee from the City, COLAB was able to provide income for the eight designers and also provide the initial funds to move into the beautiful Art Square building in the downtown 18b Arts District in Las Vegas. The permanent space at Art Square has worked wonders as it provides a meeting, exhibit, and collaboration space to work on new innovative and creative community projects.
OUR CURRENT PROJECTS AND DIALOGUE
We continue to make an impact through our current Women in Design panel discussion, lecture and exhibit showcasing women in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design. Current projects also includes our Downtown Backyard Project, a dialogue about landscape architecture and an effort to design and build an urban green corridor with in the 18b Arts District. Upcoming projects and programing so far for 2013 include dialogue and exhibits on urban housing and restaurant design and the launch of a new lecture series, workshops, design competitions, symposiums, classes, and movie viewings.
WHAT WE NEED | IMPACT
The funds received would allow COLABlv to maintain its space at Art Square as well as provide its day to day operating expenses. The Neon Gateway Project, Women in Design, and the Downtown Backyard Project and future dialogue and projects will all make an impact on not only this creative class of professionals but on our community, our physical and social urban environment in the Las Vegas community. Each and every dollar contributed to the efforts of the organization will help support us in keeping these efforts a live. There is not limit on the creative possibilities of COLAB or the impact that it can have on our community and build environment, but the more hearts and minds that we can get on board, the more opportunity we will have to take COLAB Las Vegas and our community to new heights.
