THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Holy crap!!!  We are so excited we hit and surpassed our initial goal so FAST!!!!

Everyone who donated is so awesome, we really appreciate all the support and the word spreading that has been going on.  This means this movie is going to become a reality!  This is so exciting for everyone at Coatwolf, it’s truly amazing and heartwarming.  Damn it I’m excited!!

We set our goal at 60k because we knew that it would be just enough for us to make the movie possible, it would probably mean someone died during the process, but we could make it.  The money we raise moving forward will only make this movie better and better, so lets not stop the support!

Seriously, I promise that every dollar you continue to contribute will end up on the screen, along with our blood, sweat, and tears.

-Jonathan Keevil

From the creative minds that brought you the hit indie sensation, Bellflower, comes a throwback to the heyday 80's side-scrolling video games and action films.

Our next feature length film will be directed by Bellfower Producer and Composer Jonathan Keevil.  It is a surrealist action/drama influenced heavily by ‘80s action films and side-scrolling fighting games like Streets of Rage and Double Dragon.  We want to create a visually rich world that honors a time when a street fight necessitated brass knuckles, chains, cut-off jean jackets, and HUGE Mohawks.

We are so excited about this film.  Literally we have been freaking out for months, and we are reaching out to YOU (the fans) to help us raise money to make our action scenes as badass as possible!

Synopsis

A turf war has been raging in Oldtown for generations. On one side, The Syndicate – an evil gang of crank-head misfits, who have been set on muscling the San Diego family out of the parcel of land they own in the center of town. On the other side, the San Diego family: Tony and Johnny - twin brothers, and their sister Salsa are the last of a bloodline that stretches back for generations. Their mother, father and brothers were all brutally murdered in violent clashes with The Syndicate over the years. With their neighborhood becoming increasingly fearful, The Syndicate puts into action another evil advance on their family’s fading legacy by kidnapping Salsa - all hell breaks loose. The twins and their best friend Chuck Hank must decide whether to hand over the deed to their family's land in order to save their sister or fight, the final fight!

With the success of Bellflower, we’ve decided we want to do it all over again.  Just the way we did it the first time: produced, filmed and entirely created by Coatwolf.  You may ask: “Why would you want to put yourselves through all that hard work and stress?”  “What is the incentive to work outside of the Hollywood studio system now that you have finally broken through?”

First and foremost – we’re all a bit crazy.  But more than that, we strive to change the way people think about movie making.  Coatwolf is a collective, and we all work together and we all dream together.  We support each other so that we can all achieve - because without each other, we are lost.

Secondly, we want complete artistic control over this film.  We can’t tell you how many times we showed Bellflower to someone and they told us all the things we HAD to change to make the film marketable.  We didn’t listen.  We stuck to our guns and kept the film exactly how it was intended to be seen, and the film was a success.  The established system can be great for certain films and for certain filmmakers - but we are different and we choose to work in a different way.  We are a filmmaking cooperative, and produce our films unconventionally, which allows us to explore the material to its fullest, and we never want to compromise this approach.

We are so excited about this movie!  This film will be action-packed and we have some pretty mind-blowing action sequences planned.

…AND THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN!

As we’ve said, we want to create this film ourselves because we don’t want to make artistic compromises BUT we also don’t want to compromise the quality.   We have mastered the art of making low budget films and can produce the majority of this film for very little money but we need financing to make the most epically insane action sequences.  Hiring stuntmen, pyro-technicians, and a special effects team can get pretty expensive to say the least.  Let’s be honest…explosions, car chases, and fight scenes RULE, and we want to involve YOU, the film lover, in this process.

We are looking for a minimum base of $60,000 to film these action sequences that we know you'll be stoked on...and on top of that you’ll be able to scream at your friends, “I HELPED MAKE THAT PART!”

With the $60k we raise from this campaign, we will be able to shoot this movie and make it truly awesome.  The majority of the funds will go towards paying stuntmen and into creating the majority of the main action sequences we have planned.  It will take everything we have to make a film of this scale and quality, but with years of guerilla filmmaking under our belts, we are more then ready for the challenge.

We promise you that every dollar you contribute will end up on-screen, and the more we surpass our $60k goal, the better the overall film will be.  Here's a list of a few of the sequences your donations will help to create:

  • A ten minute long side-scrolling fight scene (the heart and soul of the film)
  • Lighting a stuntman on fire with our flamethrower
  • Throwing molotov cocktails at Joel's Hodge's (the Cinematographer's) Camaro during a high-speed car chase
  • An awesome Speed Boat scene and helicopter rental to get us amazing aerial footage of said Speed Boat as well as the undisclosed Southern California city we’ll be shooting in!
  • A massive bone-crushing 30 person street brawl!
  • The materials to build a new and customized camera rig to make all of these sequences look like nothing you've ever seen before...

In exchange for your support we are offering all kinds of cool stuff like exclusive email updates, digital downloads, signed Blu-rays/movie posters to set visits, a dinner party with the filmmakers and even tickets to the movie premiere and after party.

We get it, some of us are scrounging for quarters to do laundry, deferring debt payments and drinking Two Buck Chuck.  But that doesn’t mean you can’t help us out!

Here are some ways your broke ass can help the Coatwolf cause:

Some of you may know who we are.  Some of you may not!  And that’s okay.  Here’s a little bit about our team:

Coatwolf started off as a group of friends who banded together over their love and passion for filmmaking.  You’ve heard similar stories; BIG dreams and NO means to make them happen.  We all worked together on dozens of projects, but what we really wanted to do was make a feature film.  But not just any feature film, we wanted to make one that mattered.  Evan Glodell, founding member of Coatwolf, had the script for Bellflower that he had been working on for years, and we had been biding our time waiting for someone to give us a million dollars. (It could happen, right?!)  But of course, it didn’t.  None of us came from wealthy families and we had roughly zero connections in Hollywood.  So what should we do?  Give up?  That was never an option.  So instead we just went for it, knowing nothing great ever happens without pain.  We shot, produced, and edited the film on $17,000, which was scraped together by our team throughout the production. We put everything into this film – our blood, sweat, tears, money and sanity.  When we were finished we loved it, but we had a VERY difficult time convincing anyone else to love it.  That was until November 2010 when we received the phone call that changed our lives.  Sundance informed us that they had accepted our film for their 2011 festival.  We freaked out, went to Sundance and SOLD OUR MOVIE!!!

Bellflower went on to open in theaters worldwide, was featured on many top 10 lists,  received positive reviews from critics at The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, Variety and even Roger Ebert himself, it was also featured in Spin, American Cinematographer, and Popular Mechanics and received prizes at film festivals across the globe.  Bellflower was nominated for two Independent Spirit Awards: Best Cinematography and the John Cassavetes Award, as well a nomination for the Breakthrough Director award for our own Evan Glodell at the 21st Annual Gotham Awards!

And this is only the beginning...
