What is this?
"Class Dismissed" is an upcoming film about the college experience by Sara Koffi. Sara is a Memphis born, California raised (okay, she just went to college there) aspiring filmmaker and screenwriter. She's been knocking on Hollywood's door for two years, before realizing that her brand of creativity wasn't going to be too warmly welcomed. So, she decided to make a movie. The movie will focus on the lives of Christy and Aubrey, two college roommates who are on the brink of almost adulthood. "Class Dismissed" is aiming to be one of the first, consciously created, problematic free forms of entertainment! Which means, if you contribute to the funds, you'll be contributing to the beginning of the types of entertainment that refuse to rely on stereotypes to make a statement. We want to avoid furthering negative thoughts about certain groups for the sake of "entertainment". It's gross.
Aren't you ready for something you can show to your friends without having to "apologize" for a scene?
That sounds cool! How does it happen?
Here's a super simplified version of what the funds will be going towards:
Above the line ($2000) = This will be for all of the actors and assistants involved in the ongoing process of creating (and may occasionally include some money for fancy equpiment and courtesy location cash)
Below the line ($2000) = This will be for all of the hard work of the camera operator, the film editor, the sound person and everyone else who may not be seen on screen but is responsible for everyone ON screen
Marketing ($1000) = So, after all is said and done, we're gonna' need people to see it! Besides free marketing (and who doesn't love Youtube) we're going to need to enter into festivals and contests if we're gonna' send that message all the way to Hollywood (see, Hollywood? You CAN make inoffensive movies!)
*If we don't reach our entire goal, we may have to cut back on the marketing but TRUST that the movie is going to get made, regardless.
Did someone say Perks?
We love perks.
For $10, we'll include your name in the credits (because it's your movie too!)
For $25, we'll send you autographed pictures from the set/s (no promises on them NOT being totally ridiculous)
For $100, we'll actually give you a movie credit (now you can tell your friends you made a movie and they can't prove you wrong)
For $1000, we are going to find a way for you to be IN the movie. No lie. Even if we have to Skype you in, you're GOING to have a cameo. If you live nearby and are extremely camera shy, we have no problem with you getting a Skype session with the cast and/or meeting us in real life. No worries.
No, but seriously. Why?
Because it's not that hard to create some form of problematic free programming and we can prove it
Because being "different" shouldn't be the punchline of the joke
Because there aren't enough safe places and safe forms of entertainment to get yourself lost in without having to second guess yourself
Because it's about damn time
