UPDATE 5: Version 1.1

We have a new release. Rejoice!

Chronicles of Skin 1.1 It's bigger, clearer and more spacious (with two rules tweaks and a bit housekeeping). I hope it'll make things clearer for you.

This comes off the back of international feedback. Thanks to those of you who took the time to send in your comments. I hope you like it.

UPDATE 4: The Finish Line!

We did it!! Thank you so much to everyone who got involved!

Over the next few months, all the contributors will be receiving news and presents. If you didn't have a chance to support the game during development, don't worry! Chronicles of Skin will be available to buy through Indie Press Revolution later this year.

UPDATE 3: Incredible News!

We made it to $5,000! Can you imagine that? All sorts of people from all over the world came together to generate way more than the target. I'm flattened by it. I don't know what to say, but a huge, mega thanks. Seriously, thanks a million!

What's next?

So where do we go from here*? Any extra money from now on (above $5,000) will go into producing POS (point of sale) stands for shops, and other stuff. You know the ones I'm talking about, right? The ones that the shop manager will get in from the distributor, unfold, and use to display and promote copies of the new, gorgeous Chronicles of Skin game (thanks to you!). Here's where your money will go!

Poster - Every $5 over$5,000 would allow me to send a big, big poster to a real gaming shop

Stand - Every $2 over $5,000 would allow me to give away a free stand to a real gaming shop

These are two examples of real, touchable things that shop owners can hold and get excited about. We'll make a few of these anyway, because we want games shops to have cool stands to hold our stuff. But every bit more we get adds more shops. So, if you think that's cool, consider donating, or telling your friend.

*We still have some more goals, which I always intended to fund in the next (?) print. I'm just putting them here to show that if you still want to help, there's still loads of cool stuff for us to do, and every tiny penny that you contribute will be used on the project to make it awesome.

UPDATE 2: From the Specialists!

The awesome, super high spec producers (see below) have offered a 64 page colour rules booklet with every copy of the game! Amazing!

UPDATE 1: $5,000 and new rewards unlocked!

We reached the goal in 24 hours! What's next?

I just got word from a premium card specialist who has offered to double the quality of the cards (310gsm vs 180gsm, with UV coating and a black card core) while, at the same time, REDUCING THE PRICE per unit!

If this deal goes through, we can probably charge $15 per unit instead of $25 (before shipping). The only thing stopping it: we need $5,000! But if we reach that goal... It means that I can afford to give you more stuff for your donations:

$25 - If we reach the target, Junior Scribes will get the Chronicles of Skin Pad: a 25 leaf, tear-away pad of Skins.

$35 - If we reach the target, Scribes of the Skin will now get the Scribe's Pouch: a pouch of Scribe's Stones, an artist's pencil and the Chronicles of Skin Pad.

$50+ If we reach the target, the big pledges will be rewarded with the Society Pack: one extra copy of the game, with the Scribe's Pouch, sent to a youth club, society or local gaming store of your choice.

Chronicles of Skin is a game of scribbling and storytelling.

Using cards and a pencil, you and your friends will tell a story, recording it on paper with doodles and glyphs. You will interpret symbols, invent cultures and collaboratively explore the decimation of an ancient people. It's for 3-5 players, takes 3 hours to play and fits in your pocket.

Chronicles of Skin has been developed with a great team, including Andrew Kenrick (White Dwarf, Dead of Night) and Jason Hickey (Outsider, Hell for Leather), plus a heap of dedicated patrons around the globe.

We Need You!

We're trying to raise funds to create a full-colour card game. The $2000 is enough for 175 decks to be printed and shipped to shops and homes.

Director's Commentary

Sebastian will read you the rules and explain them, all from within your PDF!! This is the quickest and most comprehensive guide to play, and will be released later as a premium product. To get this prize, pledge more than $50.

Scribe's Card

A custom Rank 4 card, with a character name of your choice! That means you’ll have a card that no one else has, anywhere in the world. It will be more powerful than any other character card in the deck, and it will have your name on it! Awesome. I want one. To get this prize, pledge more than $100.

Conventions of War

We're doing an exclusive print run of the "Conventions of War," an illustrated book of Skins and Scenarios to kick off your convention one-shots. This print version is for patrons only (not available to the public), and will include artwork by Jason Hickey and others, with an extended version of the original rules and loads more room for examples. To get this prize in print, pledge more than $100, or pledge more than $25 for the PDF.

A Word From The Author...

This is my second game, and by far my favourite. It reminds me of my childhood holidays by the fireside in Cork: drawing, playing cards and telling stories. I love the fact that it's doubly creative—while you create your story, you also create an artefact—and I love how it feels so collaborative.

If you contribute to this project, you'll be helping to create the first card game to mix art and collaborative storytelling. We hope you'll join us and help publish Chronicles of Skin!
