Our production costs have increased significantly hence raising our target amount from £1000 to £2000 - please help us!

Who are Chantry Dance Company?

Chantry Dance Company is a contemporary ballet company whose mission is to explore the concept that dance can operate as redemptive art for both performers and audience alike, and to fearlessly pursue the innovative methods by which this can be achieved, whilst generating work of artistic and technical integrity.

CDC was formed in May 2012 and is led by choreographer Paul Chantry. CDC seeks to inspire a unique freedom in both its dancers and audience.

Paul is an extremely talented choreographer with a big vision for the company. Within 3 months of CDC’s formation, Paul was commissioned to create five pieces for the ‘Chinese Calligraphy, Music and Dance Concert’ for Sadler's Wells/Vienna Donube Culture Media which CDC performed on the main stage at Sadler’s Wells in August. Following this performance, Paul was invited to form a collaboration with Ronald Corp OBE, Founder and Artistic Director of the New London Orchestra, which led to........

Our current project - CORP DE BALLET, TRIPLE BILL

CDC’s current project is a triple bill ballet in collaboration with composer Ronald Corp OBE and writer Francis Booth under the umbrella title of Corp de Ballet. These ballets have been choreographed to wonderful new compositions by Ronald with libretti by Francis, and is being performed  at the Village Underground on 18 January, 2013. The work involves dancers, an actor and an opera singer – each communicating with the audience through their unique performance voice. The three pieces that make up the bill are:

1) 'The Yellow Wallpaper’

Adapted from the short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. A feminist tale of repressed creativity, female subservience and dissociative psychosis.

2) 'Songs of The Elder Sisters'

Meditative poems written in the wisdom of old age, by nuns who lived and travelled with the Buddha 2,500 years ago – these are among the earliest poems written by women.

3) 'Lullaby for a Lost Soul'

Dark, stark and abstract poetry by Francis Booth about loss, death and helplessness.

This project is a landmark for CDC as it is our first project in collaboration with Ronald and Francis, and we hope that through this unique artists' collective we will see our three art forms communicate important issues to our audience in a way that is accessible and allows them to relate personally to the material. We are eager to leave our audience with a lasting, positive experience of modern dance and music, and also to create art that makes people stop and think....

Most importantly, however, as this is an exclusive, invite-only event, it's our one and only chance to invite key people from the dance industry to see our work with the hope of building significant relationships essential for CDC's future and growth. We need to make this event as impressive an experience as possible, which is why we need your help - think of it as investing in CDC's future!

Your support will significantly help us with our production....your help will bring this ballet to life and to the stage and you will become a part of CDC's vision for the creation of exciting, relevant art !

The Impact

We want to see Ronald's compositions and CDC's choreograhphic work both brought to a wider audiences. Ronald's three new compositions will be promoted through this event as well as CDC's work.

We believe that CDC does has the potential to change people's lives for the better through the medium of dance. We have already seen people moved to tears by CDC's performances, and have heard amazing stories of how our work has inspired people to return to dance or encouraged them to undertake ventures which they previously hadn't had the confidence to try. We want to see more of this! CDC is desperate to bring freedom and inspiration to a wider audience and to work with more great artists such as Ronald and Francis. We can only do this by getting our work out there and letting people know we exist.....you will be helping us in this dream with your contribution...please help us to keep dreaming big.
