Cavity Case Swallows Your Phone, Wallet, and Key Chain

Put all your essentials in your iPhone 4 or 5 case!

Put all your essentials in your iPhone 4 or 5 case!

NOTE: The Cavity Case shown is a 3D printed part and spray painted, poorly. The production parts will be shiny and prettier.

A fun message from the founders

What does Cavity Case keep?

  • Your iPhone 4 or 5

  • Three house keys or smaller keys

  • One average-sized car key

  • Either a car remote, lip gloss, USB stick, or two of our custom round enclosures

  • One telescoping pen

  • Your stuff from falling out from shaking (both hand and booty)

What does Cavity Case come with?

  • A compact mirror recessed into the case

  • A flexible plastic cover and a solid cover for the storage area

  • Four versatile round enclosures that fit in the storage area

  • One custom-fit telescoping pen

  • A leather strap

  • Love from us!

Bring your Wallet

Put in the card slot:

  • Up to 4 credit cards

  • An ID

  • A $20 (or a $1, we don’t judge)

The cards are pinched securely and are held in a way that allows them to be removed individually, with or without the top of the case connected.

Bring your Key Chain

The case fits up to three small keys (house, padlock, etc.)

The case also fits one average-sized car key in the top case. The head of the car key can be up to 1.24” wide by 1.4” long by 0.63” tall.

Bring your car remote, lighter, lip gloss, contacts….

The storage area has two different covers: a transparent plastic cover that lets you push your car remote buttons without taking off the cover, and a solid plastic one for aesthetics and privacy. Both covers snap into place so they don’t fall off.

If you don’t have a car remote, try a lighter, USB stick, lip balm, or pack of gum.  Use our two custom containers for storing makeup, contacts, or pills in the remote storage fob area.  Instead of having to rummage through your pockets or purse, get creative!   Our containers store whatever small, secret items you can think of.

The case fits a mini lighter

The storage area measures 1.45” wide by 2.44” long by 0.73” tall.

Sling it around your wrist

The strap is actually quite comfy around my wrist. I’m sure it will look much more stylish around yours, though. If you’re not into it, you can always remove it. We won’t be offended. No, seriously, it’s fine. It was really hard to get it to work, but really, it’s no big deal.

Take it apart and put it in your pockets

Slide the case apart and shove it in your pockets. It’s smaller than a wallet and makes carrying keys more comfortable. It feels good even in tight jeans.

Check yourself out in the mirror

The 2" by 2" mirror is recessed in the cover.

iPhone 4 and iPhone 5

We’re developing both units for production.

The iPhone 5 case is a tad slimmer and has a ¼ inch longer remote storage area. It also has the added advantage of containing an iPhone 5, which we really have no right to claim credit for, but will anyway.*

*iPhone 5 sold separately.

Color Options

You can get the top of the case in white, blue, green, red, and pink. You can get the bottom of the case in any color you want, as long as it’s black.

You want to order for Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa!

Good call! We’re projecting that both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 versions will ship by February. If you’re ordering for the holidays, we’ll send a brochure in the mail for the case. Our elves work cheerfully until their tiny fingers give out, but they need a minimum of 4 hours of sleep per day and two 15-minute breaks for reindeer games.*

*Note: no elves were harmed in the making of Cavity Case.

Progress

The design is complete, and we’re currently working with mold makers in the U.S. to optimize the parts for production. Once we hit our goal, we’ll pull the trigger. It will take another 3-4 weeks to produce the tools, and an additional 2 weeks to produce our first production batch. After that, we’ll be shipping out product in February.

Rewards

So, the deal is, we know that once you get this case, all your friends will think it’s super clever and cool, and by the transitive property, you will be assumed (accurately) to be super clever and cool, as well. Everyone wants to be considered clever and cool, so they will buy the case also (like the sheep that they are) but YOU will be the first and therefore MOST clever and cool person. This is why we’re kickstarting the case at the low, low price of $39.  What’s that? Too generous, you say? No, no, we feel you’re helping us sell more, so we want to pass our marketing savings onto you, our early adopters! In seriousness, we really couldn’t do it without you.

After Kickstarter, we’re going to reassess the price point and our costs, and charge between $50 and $70 without the pen.

Shipping Price

Shipping is not included. We will email you an invoice for the cost of shipping to you starting at the end of the campaign.

  • Shipping in United States is approximately $5

  • Shipping to Canada is approximately $10

  • Shipping International is approximately $15

FAQs

Will stuff fall out?

Not without pulling it out. The mechanisms that hold things in place have been thoroughly tested and redesigned several times. This was the hardest aspect of the design to get correct, but we’re confident in it now.

How rugged is the case?

The case is made of a very rugged polymer (polycarbonate for stiffness combined with ABS for resilience). This combination is commonly used where impact is likely and is regarded as the best for this application. It also has a shiny and aesthetically pleasing look.

So cool, but I don’t have an iPhone!

We’re starting with the iPhone, but assuming this goes well, we will be developing cases for other phones as well. Stay tuned by liking www.facebook.com/cavitycase!

What kind of car keys does it accept?

The case fits almost all car keys we’ve tried, with a few exceptions for monstrous keys. If you’re worried, just take out your ruler and measure. If your car key doesn’t fit, you can attach it to the case on a key ring that we provide, carry it separately, or buy another car with a more respectable car key, whichever.

Will it take any size door or padlock key?

Yes, it takes most keys, but we won’t go as far as to say all. If you have one of those bizarre keys that won’t fit, you’ll know it, but measure it and it might fit in the key fob. If it looks like a normal house key or a short padlock key, that will almost certainly be fine.

How do the cards stay in?

Very well, actually. There is a slight taper on the card holder so that they bend in the middle (not enough to damage them… it’s more of a gentle nudge).  They are also pinched from the top and bottom as they slide in, allowing you to put one to five cards into the case and still have them held securely.

How do the keys stay in?

We spent a lot of time perfecting this mechanism. The slots have springs inside that pinch the keys hard enough that they can’t jiggle out, but flexibly enough to still allow you to pull them out without trouble.

What's the deal with the mirror?

It’s the size of a standard sized compact mirror and looks just like one.  It can be used to spy on people sitting behind you, to find and eliminate pieces of spinach stuck in your teeth, or to reflect light signals to passing ships if you become stranded on a desert island.

How does the hook mechanism keep the case together?

The two hooks that keep the top (colored part) and bottom (black part) connected snap together past a slight divot, so they don’t fall apart without a good push.

Can you put any size key fob in the storage area?

No, but it fits most medium-sized ones. If this is very important to you, check the size of yours ahead of time and ensure that it fits, but you can always put other things in that area.

Does the telescoping pen come with it?

Normally, no, but we’re throwing it in during the Kickstarter phase because we’re cool like that.

All of the other cases on the market are super lame and boring. How is yours so amazing and smart?

We know. It’s a real shame, but we’re here to help. Working through the technical issues we faced while designing this was extremely brain- and time-consuming. Thanks for your support!

RISKS AND CHALLENGES

We have some minor pre-tooling adjustments we will make. After that, we're prepared to develop the tooling and start producing parts. All the manufacturing will take place within the U.S. We’ve secured sourcing for all the components accompanying the case and are working with a highly qualified tool maker and plastic injection molding company in Southern California. Our team has experience in plastic injection molding and understands how to get accurate and consistent quality from our parts. The renderings show the various color options available and will be matched during production.

So you’re aware, we’re considering incorporating a way to connect a purse strap (not to be confused with the wrist strap we’re definitely incorporating) in the design, but we haven’t resolved a couple of issues with it, so we’re not promoting the case with that yet. We’ll keep you updated.
